يتناول كتاب (المجتمع المصري والثقافة الغربية 1798-1952) والذي قام بتأليفه د. محمد رجب زكي تمام في حوالي (286) صفحة من القطع المتوسط موضوع (المجتمع المصري والثقافة الغربية) يستعرض الكتاب سوء أحوال حياة المجتمع المصري خلال الحكم العثماني، حيث عاش المجتمع المصري خلاله في عزلة كاملة عن المدنية الغربية، حتى الغزو الفرنسي لمصر عام 1798، الذي كان بمثابة الصدمة الأولى التي أطلعت المجتمع على أنماط جديدة من المدنية الغربية، ومنذ تولى محمد على الحكم، أدرك أن مصر عليها أن تقتبس من الغرب، فبدأ الاقتباس عن الغرب في كل المجالات، بهدف سلوك طريق المدنية.
