هذا الكتاب خلاصة دراسات ورؤى وتأملات للمذهب الإباضي الذي يعد المذهب الديني الرئيسي في سلطنة عمان ثبتها د.محمد صابر عرب بما يضيف إلي المكتبة العربية قيمة بحثية مهمة أتاحت له ذلك سنوات أمضاها أستاذا في جامعة السلطان قابوس وكما يقول د.عرب فقد استلفت نظرة الفكر الإباضي والجغرافيا فالعمانيون في معظمهم قد اعتنقوا المذهب الإباضي منذ فترة مبكرة من التاريخ الإسلامي وفي سبيله واجهوا حروبا ضارية في العصرين الأموي والعباسي جميعها كانت تستهدف القضاء على المذهب لكن اللافت للنظر بقاء هذا الفكر واستمراره ومقدرته على الاختفاء ثم الظهور يضيف د.عرب أنه من الصعب فهم التاريخ العماني في غيبة المذهب الإباضي. خصوصا وقد كان الفكر الإباضي يشكل مشروع دولة بملامحها السياسية والجغرافية والاقتصادية كما أنه من الصعب فهم التاريخ العماني في غيبة الجغرافيا فالبحر واليابسة يكملان معا تفاصيل الحياة بواقعها السياسي والاجتماعي والاقتصادي والديني.
