هذا الكتاب، (نجيب محفوظ بختم النسر) ما هو إلا سيرة تنشر للمرة الأولى كاملة عن نجيب محفوظ، من خلال ملفه الوظيفي، اشتملها الكتاب في فصول سبعة، جاء الأول بعنوان (حياة في أوراق رسمية) متناولا مولد صاحب نوبل، في 11 ديسمبر 1911، في 8 شارع بيت القاضي بالجمالية لأب عمل لسنوات موظفا، قبل أن يطلب بنفسه إحالته للمعاش ولم يبلغ الستين بعد، مرورا بما توفر لنجيب محفوظ من شهادات، مع سعى والده لتوظيفه، مكناه من التعيين كاتبا في إدارة الجامعة المصرية عام 1934 وحتى 1939، ثم وزارة الأوقاف (1939-1957) وأخيرا وزارة الثقافة بمختلف مسمياتها من 1957- 1971.
