يتحدث المؤلف عن مسمى الكتاب فيقول ولكن عمنا ابن بطوطة كان اسمه هو عيبه، فبطوطة من البط والبط طائر لا يطير ! شديد الكسل شديد الوخم غاية رحلته لفة في بحيرة أو نزهة فى بركة أو بلبطة فى ترعة حسب الأحوال والتساهيل... ولذلك أطلقت على نفسي لقب ابن عطوطة على وزن ابن بطوطة باعتبار أن كلا منا له رحلات وجولات وسفريات على اختلاف المكان والزمان... أنا إذن ابن عطوطة وهي من العط والإنسان يعط حتى يزهق وأحيانا حتى يغمى عليه\" لذلك فأنه يتناول رحلاته خلال حياته.
