الذكريات الصغيرة هى السيرة الذاتية لساراماجو التى يتناول فيها فترة الطفولة فقط وإنها الذكريات التى مرت به ونقشت آثارها فى وجدانه فأسهمت فى بناء اللبنات الأولى فى شخصية الطفل الصغير الذى صار بعد ذلك واحدا من أهم كتاب العالم ويقول ساراماجو عن \"الذكريات الصغيرة\" وهذا الكتاب يحكى عن الطفل الذى كنته كأفضل وسيلة لأفهم نفسى. وبالرغم أن هناك من يعتقد أن السنوات الأولى من حياتنا -سنوات البراءة- هى فترة نعيشها وننساها فأنا أعتقد عكس ذلك تماما.
