قد صدر كتاب \"ازدهار وسقوط المسرح\" في أبريل 1979 وللتاريخ دلالة قوية حيث أصبحت ملامح المسرح المصري واضحة، إذ بدأ قطار المسرح يضل طريقه في منتصف السبعينيات وفاروق عبد القادر هو أحد شهود العيان على هذه الفترة. حيث أدى تدخل المؤسسة وإحكام قبضتها على المسرح إلى ضعف سلطان التقاليد المسرحية وسادت روح البيروقراطية فضلا عن مصادرة العديد من العروض المسرحية قبل الافتتاح لأنها لا تتوافق ومصالح المؤسسة السياسية في تلك الفترة وينقسم الكتاب إلى ثلاثة فصول الأول بعنوان الماضي والآباء والثاني المولد والازدهار، أما الفصل الثالث فبعنوان التعثر والسقوط.
