تقوم هذه المسرحية، على ثلاثة أهداف متبلورة ؛ أولها : إعادة الاعتبار للشعر بصفته لغة الدراما: ليجدد من خلال الدراما مشهدية تورطنا بالعلاقة مع الخير والشر (الله، الشيطان) بالإضافة إلى التجربة الدينية والحدس: حتى ولو جرت هذه الأشياء في سياق العادات، في العالم المعاصر لغرف الاستقبال وما يدور فيها من محادثات وتصرفات سيطرت على مسرح لندن فترة طويلة. ففي محاولته تناول هذه الأشياء الثلاثة، كان إليوت يهاجم بشكل رئيسي لا أدريه الجمهور، بتوقه واعتياده على الحوار النثري الطبيعي، والذي كان يذهب إلى المسرح للتسلية لا لمشاهدة تجربة خلاقة.
