Overview
بالرغم من عدم وجود دولة عراقية بحدود معروفة، ولا جيش وطني قبل الحرب العالمية الأولى، إلا أن وجود الضباط العراقيون في الجيش العثماني، قد حملهم مسؤولية الواجب الوطني والقومي لطلب الاستقلال للعرب بعد الحرب. تلك هي ما أجبرت بعض الضباط من القيامبغارات على معسكرات البريطانيين في دير الزور، والبوكمال، وتلعفر بعد أن شعروا عدم استجابة السلطات البريطانية لمطاليبهم في إنشاء حكومة وطنية. ولم يكن أبناء عشائر الفرات الأوسط أقل عزما حين أعلنوا ثورتهم ضد المحتل البريطاني عام 1920. وكليهماأجبرا الحكومة البريطانية على تغيير سياستها تجاه العراق، لتشكيل حكومة وجيش وطني.
