Overview
الكتاب يتناول تعاطي الدولة العثمانية مع الحج كظاهرة سياسية واجتماعية وليس كظاهرة دينية. وسيطرتها على الحجاز لمدة قرنين من الزمان السادس والسابع عشر واحتلال السلطان سليم الأول مصر، وتعتبر هذه الفترة كنهاية للقرون الوسطى وبداية للعصر الحديث. كذلك النظر إليها ليس من حيث الازدهار السياسي والفكري كوجهة نظر إسطنبول. فالتاريخ العثماني كان ينظر إليه كتاريخ هام لأنه يشكل مقدمة ضرورية للتاريخ القومي السوري وبالطبع للتاريخ التركي الوطني، غير أن هذا كان غير مناسب على الأخص عندما يطبق على مدينتي الحج، مكة المكرمة والمدينة المنورة ما أوجد سلبيات كثيرة في طريقة التعامل معهم.
