يعتبر مؤلف الكتاب الباحث موسى العبدلي إن كتابه هذا ليس كتابا في الأنساب بالدرجة الأولى وإنما هو كتاب (جغرافي - تاريخي) يسجل جغرافية وتاريخ سراة خولان، ولكن كان من الضروري أيضا التعريف بالإنسان، ولذلك تناول المؤلف في هذا الكتاب الحديث عن الأنساب لارتباط علم التاريخ بعلم الأنساب، ولمعرفة تاريخ هذه السراة لا بد للقارئ الكريم كما يرى المؤلف أن يلغي من ذهنه الحدود السياسية المعاصرة لشبه الجزيرة العربية ويتصورها وحدة جغرافية مترابطة فلم تعرف شبه الجزيرة العربية لا عرب الجنوب ولا عرب الشمال ولا عرفت لا شمال الجزيرة ولا جنوبها، ولم تورد النقوش ذكرا لا لقحطانية ولا لعدنانية.
