هذا الكتاب مزيج من السيرة الذاتية للكاتب والتاريخ وعلم الاجتماع يحكى عن تفاصيل حياته بأدق تفاصيلها خاصة فيما يخص عائلته التي تعيش مع فى بيت العائلة والتي هي صورة مصغرة من مجتمع زمانه تخلله حديث عن بعض الاحداث السياسية كثورة 19 وانتفاضة عام35 وغيرها وعن مرحلة تخصصه في علم الاجتماع دراسة وتطبيقا في الواقع وقد أنشغل بقضية أطفال الشوارع وتجربة الحكومة ساعتها في التخلص منها وقد شارك فيها وأبدى ملاحظتها حولها.
