يتناول الكتاب قصة أسيد بن حضير، بدأت قصة إسلام أسيد بن الحضير، عندما أرسل رسول الله-عليه الصلاة والسلام-مصعب بن عمير إلى المدينة ليعلم ويفقه المسلمين من الأنصار، وليدعو غيرهم إلى دين الله، وعلم سعد بن معاذ، وكان صديقا لأسيد، فأراد أن يحرضه على مصعب، فقال : انطلق إلى هذا الرجل فأزجره، فحمل أسيد حربته، وذهب إلى مصعب الذي كان في ضيافة أسعد بن زرارة من زعماء المدينة الذين سبقوا إلى الإسلام، وعند مجلس مصعب وأسعد بن زرارة رأى أسيد جمهرة من الناس تصغي في اهتمام للكلمات التي يدعوهم بها مصعب إلى الله. وفاجأهم أسيد بغضبه وثورته، فقال له مصعب : هل لك في أن تجلس فتسمع، فإن رضيت أمرنا قبلته وإن كرهته كففنا عنك ما تكره. فقال أسيد : هات ما عندك، وراح مصعب يقرأ القرآن ويشرح مبادئ الإسلام.
