تتميز أشعار الديوان بموسيقاها الجميلة، التي تعبر عن مدى حب جلال الدين للموسيقى، بل وبراعته التي كان يشتهر بها-كما يقولون في الضرب على بعض آلاتها كالربابة ويرجع حب جلال الدين للموسيقى إلى ما ذكره هو في \"المثنوي\" من أن آدم-عليه السلام-قد سمع الموسيقى والألحان في الجنة وتأثر بها فعلق حفها بقب ذريته وقد انعكس حب جلال الدين للموسيقى في الديوان-بخاصة حيث استخدم خمسا وخمسين بحرا مختلفا من بحور الشعر وهو تنوع في الموسيقى لم يتح لشاعر آخر سواه، بل ان الأوزان المهملة التي كانت موجودة في شعر القدماء ثم أهملت استطاع الشاعر أن ينظم فيها جميعا حتى أصبحت تنافس الأوزان المألوفة في رفتها وعذوبتها ويحتوي هذا الكتاب على ترجمة منثورة لمائة غزلية وغزلية واحدة من ديوان شمس تبريز.
