هذا الكتاب دليل ولكن الدليل لا نفع فيه إذا لم نرغب في السفر تبحث الغالبيـة العظـمى من الناس عن الأدلاء فإذا جاؤوهم يطرقـون أبوابهـم وجدوهـم مستغرقين في النوم ويقول مترجم الكتاب منذ أن عرفت هذا الكتاب قبل ما يزيد على عشرين سنة فقد قرأته أكثر من ثلاث مرات ولا أدري كم مرة قرأت الفصل الخاص بالرباعيات الوترية الأخيرة وأقول قرأته ولكن قراءة كتاب حول بيتهوفن مهما يكن متوغلا في أسرار هذا الكائن الذي سمع كل شيء سوى أصوات العالم الضاجة ومن غير ملاحقة موسيقى بيتهوفن في أروقة الروح ومتاهاتها من غير استماع متواصل متكرر معاند عناد حياة لكل جملة موسيقية كتبها.
