في هذه الصفحات المشرقة يعرض الدكتور \"صلاح الدين المنجد\" بأسلوب أنيق مطعم بجمال العرض لصورتين من صور الطبقات الاجتماعية في العصر العباسي أولاهما في الدرج الأعلى من سلم الحياة وهي طبقة الظرفاء وآخرهما في الدرك الأسفل منه وهي طبقة الشحاذين والطبقتان على ما بينهما من البعد في مسافة الخلف تسمهما الحضارة العباسية بالسمة الغالبة على جميع الطبقات وهي اعتماد كل طبقة منها على أصول مرعية وآداب محتومة يميزها لباقة السلوك ونصاعة الأدب وبراعة الذهن ولطف الحيلة.
