يتحدث الكتاب عن سقراط الفيلسوف الذي أغنت أفكاره العالم ولم تمت بموت صاحبها ولقد كان دفاع فهو الداعية إلى حرية الفرد والشعوب وهو الذي أراد أن يعلم الأجيال معاني \"سقراط واضحا وصريحا هذه الحرية بقوله \"إن الطريقة المثلى والأسهل لذلك هي أنه بدلا من كم أفواه الناس اعملوا على أن تكونوا بشكل أفضل ولقد أعطى \"سقراط\" بموته الحياة للمبادىء التي عاشها وعاش معها لكي تسمو في أولئك الذين آمنوا به فقد عاد تلاميذه الذين هجروا \"أثينا\" بعد موت معلمهم لكي يحافظوا على تعاليمه السامية ولكي تشهد المدينة الجاحدة إنتصار الفكرة على الموت وهي تعلن \"سقراط\" شهيدا أولا في تاريخ الفلسفة.
