يتحدث هذا الكتاب عن ألكسي دو توكفيل حيث يرسم هذا الكتاب صورة إنسانية لهذا الرجل الفرنسي الذي صار رمزا أمريكيا حيث أن كان ألكسي دو توكفيل من أوائل الذين أدركوا عظمة المشروع الأمريكي ونادوا به من غير الأمريكيين وفي رائعته «الديموقراطية في أمريكا» التي نشرت في جزأين عام 1835 لم يقدم فقط وصفا دقيقا للدولة التي كانت آنذاك دولة جديدة وإنما تنبأ بما ستصير إليه تلك الدولة.
