يتناول الكتاب سيرة بليغ منذ ولادته في السابع من تشرين الأول / أكتوبر في روض الفرج، لأسرة عريقة من الطبقة الوسطى، التي نمت بعد ثورة 1919، وقد علمته أسرته الموسيقى الى جانب تحصيله العلم ففي سن السادسة، كان بليغ يستمع بانتباه إلى الراديو، وتعلقت أذناه بالموسيقى، وذات يوم استقدم والده مدرسا للموسيقى كي يعلم شقيقتيه \"صفية\" و\"أسماء\" أصول العزف، فكان أن تعلم هو العزف على البيانو، عندها شعر والده بحبه للموسيقى، فشجعه على الاستماع الى الموسيقى الكلاسيكية.
