تناول الكتاب أن الصحافة أحد تلك الإنجازات الطليعية المعاصرة التي استطاع العمانيون من خلالها مضاهاة أقرانهم العرب حيث أودعها العمانيون خلاصة أفكارهم وجميل إبداعاتهم الشعرية والنثرية. وتعد صحيفة \"الفلق\" من أهم وأشهر الصحف الصادرة في المهجر العماني، حيث كانت مصبا لأفكار الكثير من أرباب العلم والفكر وميدانا يتبارى فيه أهل الحكم والقلم، ويأتي الشيخ والزعيم هاشل بن راشد المسكري شخصية هذا الكتاب في طليعة أولئك الأشخاص الذين قامت عليهم وعلى فكرهم صحيفة \"الفلق\"، حيث بث فيها وعبر صفحاتها شجونه الإصلاحية، وشؤونه الاجتماعية، وهمومه الوطنية. وهذا الكتاب ما هو إلا محاولة لقراءة الدور التنويري الحضاري العماني بمكوناته في شرق أفريقيا، كما أنها محاولة كشف وتوثيق وأرشفة الخطاب الثقافي في صحيفة الفلق الصادرة بين 1929-1963م.
