يتحدث هذا الكتاب عن نشوء الخالدية منذ تجميع أول نواة لمخطوطاتها سنة 1133 هـ / 1720 م أي قبل افتتاحها سنة 1900 م بنحو مئتي عام ثم ظروف افتتاحها كمكتبة عمومية في السنة المذكورة وكيف تطورت ما بين افتتاحها وسنة النكبة 1948 وما حل بها منذئذ وبعد احتلال إسرائيل للقدس الشرقية سنة 1967 وكيف تمكنت جمعية أصدقاء المكتبة الخالدية من الحفاظ عليها وتنميتها.
