أطلق عليه العقاد لقب : (شاعر الرقة العاطفية)، وقال عنه طه حسين : (إن معانيه جديدة تصل أحيانا إلى الروعة، فهو شاعر مجيد تالفه النفس ويصبو إليه القلب). أما شاعر الشام شفيق جبرى فقال عنه : (لقد جاء شعره ريان بدمع عينه، مصبوغا بدم قلبه، ليس فيه إلا الأنين والحنين من خلال هذا الدمع وهذا الدم). أما الوزير الأديب إبراهيم دسوقي أباظة، فقد وصفة بقوله : (إنه شاعر رقيق، رشيق، دقيق، أنيق. تصل معانيه إلى قلبك قبل ألفاظه).
