تحلل هذه الدراسة التنافس بين هاتين الدولتين الإقليميتين ومحاولة كل منهما موازنة نفوذ الأخرى وتحالفاتها الإقليمية والدولية ويؤكد المؤلف أن هذا التنافس لا ينفي وجود أسس موضوعية للتعاون بين تركيا وإيران أهمها الروابط الحضارية المشتركة وفشل كل منهما في الانضمام إلى أطر بديلة وما يوفره التعاون من إمكانات ضخمة للمنطقة كلها أما مستقبل السياسات الإيرانية والتركية في هذه المنطقة فتحدده عوامل عديدة وهي حل تناقضاتهما الداخلية والقدرة على تلبية حاجات الدول الناشئة المتطلعة إلى دوريهما ومواجهة نفوذ القوى الخارجية وخاصة الأمريكي، والروسي الذي لا يزال المحدد الأبرز لسياسات المنطقة.
