يقدم هذا الكتاب ستة عشر علما من أعلام الإبداع والنقد، وأعترف أن كتابتي عنهم جاءت في أوقات متباعدة استدعتها مناسبة من المناسبات، أو موقف خاص دفعني إلى قراءة منتج هذا العلم أو ذاك، لكن المرجع الأول لكتابتي عنهم، هو (المحبة) أو (القيمة الرفيعة) التي يمثلها كل منهم، وذلك على الرغم من أنني لم أعايش بعضهم في زمنه، وربما لم أعايشه مباشرة في زمني، لكني عايشتهم جميعا في سيرتهم، وفي منتجهم الجمالي والثقافي. وأعترف أنه قد تجمع لدي مادة غزيرة عن أعلام يعيشون معنا، ويملئون حياتنا إبداعا ونقدا وثقافة، لكني أرى أن الحياة الثقافية ما زالت مفتوحة أمامهم، وما زالت وظيفتهم الثقافية والإبداعية والتنويرية تمارس فعالياتها في النهوض بالمجتمع العربي، ومن ثم لم أضم هؤلاء الأحياء إلى من كتبت عنهم ممن رحلوا إلى عالم الخلد والخلود.
