يبين هذا الكتاب أهمية الموروث الشعبي الحكائي في أدب الأطفال لكونه إرثا إنسانيا، فضلا عن إن النواة الأولى لهذا الأدب كانت تتمثل في الحكايات الشعبية، بمصادرها وأنواعها جميعا، وما يتصل بها من حيثيات فكرية ونفسية واجتماعية. لا يختلف الأمر كثيرا عن خاصر الكتابة للأطفال، إذ أخذت تتمظهر ملامح أدب الأطفال، الذي صار بالتقادم علما قائما بذاته، لتنتقل معه الحكايات الشعبية إلى أطر جديدة، مستفيدة من التحولات الفنية، كالاستلهام والاقتباس والتضمين. نظرا لندرة الدراسات المتعلقة، بهذا الموضوع، عمدت الباحثة إلى تسليط الضوء بحثا واهتماما، والخروج بنتائج معززة لدراسات أدب الأطفال في العراق تحديدا وفي الوطن العربي بوجه عام.
