أن البادية العربية لم تتغير حياتها، واحتفظت الحواضر بشيء ضئيل من الحضارة والأدب والعلم، فالشعر الجاهلي تعبير عن قوم عاشوا في حقبة معينة من التاريخ، في بيئة جغرافية محددة الطبيعة الطبوغرافية والأحوال المناخية والعناصر الأحيائية والنباتية والحيوانية، مضيفا أن القصيدة مجرد مدونة إما لإعادة كلام مكرور، أو لتطبيق نظرية جديدة، مشيرا إلى أنه لا يمكن عزل أدب نتج في بيئة عن إنسان تلك البيئة، حتى وإن اختلف الزمن، فالتأثير الجغرافي والبيئي لا شك في بقائه، والتأثير التاريخي والثقافي لا يتغير بسهولة، ولاسيما أن الطبيعة الشفهية تجمع بين المجتمعين الجاهلي والحديث.
