Overview
ينقسم الكتاب إلى ستة فصول تتناول الفصول الثلاثة الأولى في خط تاريخي ىمتواصل طه حسين منذ أن بدأ يتشكل وعيه العام مع نهاية العقد الأول من القرن الماضي وحتى أصبحت له مواقف وأدوار مشهودة، كاتبا وإداريا ووزيرا. أما الفصلان الرابع والخامس فقد اختص أحدهما بدراسة موقف العميد من الغرب وكيف وإلى أي مدى تأثر بنموذجه الحضاري، بينما تناول الفصل الآخر دراسة لموقف العميد من مسألة الهوية والوجهة الحضارية التي ينبغي لمصر أن تتجه إليها وذلك من خلال قراءة مختلفة لكتابه الخطير ''مستقبل الثقافة في مصر''. أما الفصل السادس والأخير فيتناول مراسلات طه حسين وأوراقه الخاصة التي قدمت شهادات وثائقية للتاريخ الثقافي والأدبي لمصر المعاصرة.
