مرض التصلب المتعدد مرض يندرج ضمن أمراض المناعة الثالثة وهو مرض خطير وتطوري وضع مارني علاقة بين الأمراض التطورية ونوعية العقلنة عند الأفراد المعانين بها، إذ يظهر أنه كلما كانت نوعية العقلنة حسنة كلما كان تطور المرض بطيئ وذو خطورة متفاوتة والعكس صحيح. في هذا البحث تحققت هذه الفرصة بنسبة 60 % إذ ظهر أنه حتى ولو كان المرضى يتميزون بعقلنة حسنة إلا أن هذا لا يمنع ظهور المرض عندهم، إلا أن تطوره يبقى بطيئ.
