هذا الكتاب (مذكرات عبد أمريكي) به إحدى الشهادات الأولى التي اشتهرت في أميركا عن عالم العبودية المؤلف فريدريك دوجلاس الذي كان واحدا من العبيد الذين نجحوا في الهرب من الولايات الجنوبية إلى الولايات الشمالية كان ذلك في منتصف القرن التاسع عشر وفي الشمال أسهم في النضال ضد العبودية وصار وزيرا بعد الحرب الأهلية في كتابه هذا مزيج من معاناة العبيد والشوق إلى الحرية هنا تجربة عظيمة وشهادة إنسانية عن الحرية ومن أجلها كانت هي الأشهر في العالم.
