قد يتبادر إلى ذهن القارئ لأول وهلة أن يتساءل عن علاقة المازني الكاتب والأديب بالسياسة باعتباره قد عرف باعتباره أديبا وكأحد كتاب المقالات الأدبية والمؤلفات الإبداعية البارزين في جيله غير أننا نود التأكيد على العلاقة الحميمة بين الأدب والسياسة تلك العلاقة التي تتضح من زاويتين : أولهما أن الأدب بشتى فنونه إبداعا ونقدا يمثل موقفا من الحياة الإنسانية في شتى تجلياتها ونشاطاتها بما فيها السياسة بطبيعة الحال مما يعني أن يكون للأديب موقف أو رؤية سياسية لأحداث عصره سواء قصد ذلك أو لم يقصده وسواء كان ذلك الموقف ظاهرا أو مضمرا والزاوية الثانية هي أن الكثيرين ممن أدركتهم حرفة الأدب وإن اجتنبهم بريق السياسة والعمل السياسي والحزبي فاشتغلوا به من باب الصحافة ذلك أن غالبية الصحف وخاصة اليومية خلال النصف الأول من القرن العشرين كانت صحفا سياسية وحزبية.
