يتناول هذا الكتاب الذي ألفه الكولونيل مايلز تحت عنوان (الخليج بلدانه وقبائله) تاريخ وجغرافية وأثنوغرافية عمان فقد عرف مايلز هذه البلاد أكثر من أي أوروبي آخر أو حتى الفترة الأخيرة كان مايلز أكثرهم معرفة بها وعند صدور هذا الكتاب في سنة 1919 م لم يعتبر حدثا ذا أهمية ومع ذلك فلم يسبق أن ظهر كتاب بنفس المستوى والأهمية عن عمان أو بالقياس إليه عن الخليج بوجه عام.
