يقدم موريس دوفرجيه رؤيته السياسية لحقبة الحرب الباردة بين المعسكر الرأسمالي والمعسكر الشيوعي، مسلطا الضوء على العديد من الوقائع التاريخية ومحاولا عرض طريق وسط لالتقاء المعسكرين من وجهة نظر سياسية. تنبأ دوفرجيه في هذا الكتاب بتحول الرأسمالية شيئا فشيئا باتجاه الاشتراكية وكان رأيه قاطعا حول حتمية استمرار الاشتراكية في الاتحاد السوفيتي وتوسعها (الكتاب صدر عام 1964) وهو أمر لم يقدره جيدا بالطبع.
