يتحدث الكتاب عن تأرجح العلاقة بين إيران وتركيا تتأرجح في العقود الماضية بين التقارب والتباعد، بسبب الاختلاف بينهما في نموذج الحكم وفي التوجهات الخارجية وقد أدت انتفاضات الربيع العربي إلى تعميق الخلاف بين الطرفين وخاصة مع انتقال رياح الانتفاضات إلى سوريا، حيث وقفت تركيا إلى جانب المعارضة السورية على حين وقفت إيران إلى جانب النظام والحاصل أن مسار العلاقات بين البلدين يعتمد على قرارات السياسة الخارجية التي ستتخذها طهران ؛ فإذا اختار النظام الإيراني اتباع سياسة خارجية وإقليمية تتسم بتعاون أكثر، فإن تركيا ستتجاوب إيجابيا مع هذا المسعى، أما إذا آثرت طهران اتباع السياسات الطائفية، فإن النظام سيجازف بمزيد من التدهور في علاقاته البناءة مع شركاء ورعاة راسخين مثل تركيا.
