رواية «فتاة الترومبون» حكاية مهاجرين بامتياز يشعرون بأنهم اقتلعوا من أرضهم لتعبث بهم يد الأقدار عبر أعمال عنف على ساحل مليسيا على البحر الادرياتيكي ما اضطر أكثر سكانه إلى الهجرة نحو تشيلي ليعيشوا هناك بخاصة حالة لا يفلح فيها تحديدا مهاجر الجيل الأول في الانتماء التام إلى الأرض الجديدة فبطل الرواية في شطرها الأول أستيبان كوبيتا عجوز يعيش أيامه الأخيرة أسير الذكريات التي بدأت هي نفسها بالتشوش فلا يميز بين الحقيقي منها والملفق أما القارئ فيظل على تواصل مع كوبيتا من حيث خفة ذاكرة الأخير وتآكل بعضها وعدم يقين ما عاشه قديما.
