أكثر المعتمد من قرض الشعر ولكنه مع هذه الكثرة لم يدون في ديوان ولم يجمعه أحد ممن جاء بعده وإنما كان متفرقا منثورا في كتب الأدب وصحائف التاريخ ولقد قام المؤلفان بجمع ما تفرق من شعر المتعمد في هذا الديوان من نحو ثلاثين من الكتب والمراجع والأصول... ويجمع شعر المعتمد بين كونه صورة لحياة أميرا أو ملك ثم هو من ناجية أخرى جزء من التاريخ وصورة لأحداث الأندلس في تلد الحقبة التي أعقبت سقوط الدولة الأموية.
