مصنف هذا الكتاب هو أبو محمد عبد الله بن المقفع الكاتب المشهور بالبلاغة صاحب الرسائل البديعة وهو من أهل فارس الذين أصابتهم تهمة الزندقة وكثر عليه التشنج فيها بعد موته وأما كتابه \"الأدب الصغير والأدب الكبير\" فهو كتاب عظيم القيمة وكبير الفائدة، يرمي فيه ابن المقفع بسهم صائب ونظر ثاقب لمجمل حياة الإنسان، في تعاملاته وأخلاقه، أدبه، معاشه، وأفكاره وهو بعد ذلك يكرس المعروف، والخلق الحسن، ويعزز طموح الطامحين من ذوي الهمة البعيدة ويحرض على الاستقامة والورع والحلم في كل جدد يسير به المرء، وفي كل كلمة ينطق بها.
