يروي الكتاب ذكر مبدأ خلق آدم عليه السلام، وعلي ما جاء من نسله من الأنبياء وصولا إلى النبي محمد، هذا إلى جانب ذكر لقصة أهل الكهف ونزول المائدة لعيسى عليه السلام ونزول عيسى عليه السلام إلى الأرض وقصة دخول ذي القرنين إلى الظلمات وقصة أصحاب الأخدود ويذكر أيضا قصة داود عليه السلام وحديث قتل الماشطة وقتل آسيه وقصة رضاع موسى عليه السلام وذكر خبر لوقيا وبناء بيت المقدس، وذكر وقوع داود في الخطيئة ويروي تاريخ مصر من بداية التاريخ حتى عام 1522 وصف الكتاب أحوال مصر السياسية والعسكرية والإدارية والقانونية والاقتصادية والثقافية والفنية والمعمارية وحكى عن الأعياد وعادات المصريين وأمور كثيرة متعلقة بحياة المصريين الاجتماعية والدينية في ذلك العصر.
