قام المؤلف بتتبع هذا الموضوع في المصادر العربية الأساسية ومن مختلف وجهات النظر وخصوصا في المراحل الأولى من القرنين التاسع عشر والعشرين وتم تقسيم المختارات إلى محاور إلى ثلاثة أقسام وتناول القسم الذي بين يدينا المناقشات والمناظرات الأولى عندما بدأت المرأة تعي قضيتها وتعلن عنها في الصحافة ومطالبتها بالتعليم وحقوق أخرى، ثم حقوقها في المساواة مع الرجل وتبعا لذلك المقارنة بين عقل الرجل وعقل المرأة وبعدها مناقشات لموضوع الحجاب والسفور. أم القسم الثاني فيشتمل على نظرة المرأة إلى قضيتها ثم نظرة الرجل إلى قضية المرأة وتخصص القسم الثالث في مناقشات حول العلاقة المتبادلة بين الرجل والمرأة ومقالات عامة حول تطور وضع المرأة حتى عام 1950.
