الحكومة المغربية واحتلال الجزائر والكتاب في جوهره يلجأ فيه صاحبه من خلال بحثه في مضان الوثائق المتوفرة إلى استعراض مجمل التطورات حول العلاقات المغربية الجزائرية، منذ أن نجحت فرنسا في استعمار الجزائر سنة 1830، وموقف السلطان مولاي عبد الرحمان خلال الفترة الواقعة ما بين (1822-1859) من هذا الاحتلال، وعلاقته مع الأمير عبد القادر الجزائري الذي ينحدر من أصول مغربية، وتصرفات هذا الأخير في البلاد المغربية، عندما حصل على اللجوء فيها، ليتخذ منها قاعدة لانطلاق حركاته الجهادية ضد القوات الفرنسية.
