Constructing spherically symmetric Einstein–Dirac systems with multiple spinors: Ansatz, wormholes and other analytical solutions
In this paper we present a detailed calculation of an Ansatz that allows to obtain spherically symmetric Einstein–Dirac configurations in d -dimensions. We show that this is possible by combining 2 ⌊ d - 2 2 ⌋ Dirac fields, making use of the properties of the angular dependence of the spinors in a spherical background. By applying this Ansatz, we investigate some simple analytical solutions. One of them is a regular wormhole supported by the Dirac fields. Other solutions include a pathological black hole and a naked singularity. We analyze the domain of existence and properties of all these solutions.
Einstein–Dirac–Maxwell wormholes: ansatz, construction and properties of symmetric solutions
We present a discussion of the traversable wormholes in Einstein–Dirac–Maxwell theory recently reported in e-Print: 2010.07317. This includes a detailed description of the ansatz and junction condition, together with an investigation of the domain of existence of the solutions. In this study, we assume symmetry under interchange of the two asymptotically flat regions of a wormhole. Possible issues and limitations of the approach are also discussed.
Quasinormal modes of dilatonic Reissner–Nordström black holes
We calculate the quasinormal modes of static spherically symmetric dilatonic Reissner–Nordström black holes for general values of the electric charge and of the dilaton coupling constant. The spectrum of quasinormal modes is composed of five families of modes: polar and axial gravitational-led modes, polar and axial electromagnetic-led modes, and polar scalar-led modes. We make a quantitative analysis of the spectrum, revealing its dependence on the electric charge and on the dilaton coupling constant. For large electric charge and large dilaton coupling, strong deviations from the Reissner–Nordström modes arise. In particular, isospectrality is strongly broken, both for the electromagnetic-led and the gravitational-led modes, for large values of the charge.
Quasinormal modes of rotating black holes in shift-symmetric Einstein-scalar-Gauss–Bonnet theory
We employ a recently developed spectral method to obtain the spectrum of quasinormal modes of rapidly rotating black holes in alternative theories of gravity and apply it to the black holes of shift-symmetric Einstein-scalar-Gauss–Bonnet theory. In this theory the quasinormal modes were recently obtained by employing perturbation theory in quadratic order in the Gauss–Bonnet coupling constant. Here we present the full non-perturbative results for the spectrum within the domain of existence of rotating black holes and compare with the perturbative results. We also compare with the quasinormal mode spectrum of rapidly rotating Einstein-dilaton-Gauss–Bonnet black holes.
Spinning extremal dyonic black holes in γ = 1 Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton theory
A bstract We propose a general framework for the study of asymptotically flat spinning dyonic extremal black holes (eBHs) in D = 4 Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton theory. Restricting to the stringy value γ = 1 of the dilaton coupling constant, we report on the existence of a one parameter family of eBHs which are free of pathologies, provided their magnetic and electric charges are equal. An understanding of this condition is found from a study of the near horizon limit of the solutions, both perturbative closed form and numerical solutions being presented.
Dynamically and thermodynamically stable black holes in Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton gravity
A bstract We consider Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton gravity with the non-minimal exponential coupling between the dilaton and the Maxwell field emerging from low energy heterotic string theory. The dilaton is endowed with a potential that originates from an electromagnetic Fayet-Iliopoulos (FI) term in N = 2 extended supergravity in four spacetime dimensions. For the case we are interested in, this potential introduces a single parameter α . When α → 0, the static black holes (BHs) of the model are the Gibbons-Maeda-Garfinkle-Horowitz-Strominger (GMGHS) solutions. When α → ∞ , the BHs become the standard Reissner-Nordström (RN) solutions of electrovacuum General Relativity. The BH solutions for finite non-zero α interpolate between these two families. In this case, the dilaton potential regularizes the extremal limit of the GMGHS solution yielding a set of zero temperature BHs with a near horizon AdS 2 × S 2 geometry. We show that, in the neighborhood of these extremal solutions, there is a subset of BHs that are dynamically and thermodynamically stable, all of which have charge to mass ratio larger than unity. By dynamical stability we mean that no growing quasi-normal modes are found; thus they are stable against linear perturbations (spherical and non-spherical). Moreover, non-linear numerical evolutions lend support to their non-linear stability. By thermodynamical stability we mean the BHs are stable both in the canonical and grand-canonical ensemble. In particular, both the specific heat at constant charge and the isothermal permittivity are positive. This is not possible for RN and GMGHS BHs. We discuss the different thermodynamical phases for the BHs in this model and comment on what may allow the existence of both dynamically and thermodynamically stable BHs.
Squashed, magnetized black holes in D = 5 minimal gauged supergravity
A bstract We construct a new class of black hole solutions in five-dimensional Einstein-Maxwell-Chern-Simons theory with a negative cosmological constant. These configurations are cohomogeneity-1, with two equal-magnitude angular momenta. In the generic case, they possess a non-vanishing magnetic potential at infinity with a boundary metric which is the product of time and a squashed three-dimensional sphere. Both extremal and non-extremal black holes are studied. The non-extremal black holes satisfying a certain relation between electric charge, angular momenta and magnitude of the magnetic potential at infinity do not trivialize in the limit of vanishing event horizon size, becoming particle-like (non-topological) solitonic configurations. Among the extremal black holes, we show the existence of a new one-parameter family of supersymmetric solutions, which bifurcate from a critical Gutowski-Reall configuration.
Quasinormal modes of compact objects in alternative theories of gravity
. We address quasinormal modes of compact objects in several alternative theories of gravity. In particular, we focus on black holes and neutron stars with scalar hair. We consider black holes in dilaton-Einstein-Gauß-Bonnet theory, and in a generalized scalar-Einstein-Gauß-Bonnet theory. In the latter case scalarized black holes arise, and we study the stability of the different branches of solutions. In particular, we discuss how the spectrum of quasinormal modes is changed by the presence of a non-trivial scalar field outside the black hole horizon. We discuss the existence of an (effective) minimum mass in these models, and how the spectrum of modes becomes richer as compared to general relativity, when a scalar field is present. Subsequently, we discuss the effect of scalar hair for realistic neutron star models. Here we consider R 2 gravity, scalar-tensor theory, a particular subsector of Horndeski theory with a non-minimal derivative coupling, and again dilatonic-Einstein-Gauß-Bonnet theory. Because of the current lack of knowledge on the internal composition of the neutron stars, we focus on universal relations for the quasinormal modes, that are largely independent of the equations of state and thus the matter content of the stars.
Quasinormal modes of hot, cold and bald Einstein–Maxwell-scalar black holes
Einstein–Maxwell-scalar models allow for different classes of black hole solutions, depending on the non-minimal coupling function f(ϕ) employed, between the scalar field and the Maxwell invariant. Here, we address the linear mode stability of the black hole solutions obtained recently for a quartic coupling function, f(ϕ)=1+αϕ4 (Blázquez-Salcedo et al. in Phys. Lett. B 806:135493, 2020). Besides the bald Reissner–Nordström solutions, this coupling allows for two branches of scalarized black holes, termed cold and hot, respectively. For these three branches of black holes we calculate the spectrum of quasinormal modes. It consists of polar scalar-led modes, polar and axial electromagnetic-led modes, and polar and axial gravitational-led modes. We demonstrate that the only unstable mode present is the radial scalar-led mode of the cold branch. Consequently, the bald Reissner–Nordström branch and the hot scalarized branch are both mode-stable. The non-trivial scalar field in the scalarized background solutions leads to the breaking of the degeneracy between axial and polar modes present for Reissner–Nordström solutions. This isospectrality is only slightly broken on the cold branch, but it is strongly broken on the hot branch.
Quadrupole Perturbations of Slowly Spinning Ellis–Bronnikov Wormholes
We study the axial and polar perturbations of slowly rotating Ellis–Bronnikov wormholes in General Relativity, applying a perturbative double expansion. In particular, we derive the equations for l=2, Mz=2 perturbations of these objects, which are parametrized by an asymmetry parameter. The equations constitute an astrophysically interesting sector of the perturbations that contribute dominantly to the gravitational wave radiation. Moreover, calculation of these modes may exhibit potential instabilities in the quadrupole sector.
