Digital design : a critical introduction
\"Digital Design : A Critical Introduction provides a much-needed new perspective on designing with digital media. Linking ideas from media theory, generative design and creativity with examples from nature, art, architecture, industrial design, websites, animation and games, it addresses some fundamental questions about creative design with digital media. Featuring original material based on the authors' own research, the book argues that the recognition and understanding of the interplay of the two apparently opposing concepts of rules and contingency supports original thinking, creativity and innovation. Going beyond existing texts on the subject, Digital Design is an accessible primer whose innovative approach transcends the analysis of individual subfields - such as animation, games and website design - yet offers practical help within all of them\"-- Provided by publisher.

Learning creativity and design for innovation
2011
This paper puts the case for using a pedagogical framework based on the principles of grammatical design in conjunction with conventional creative problem solving strategies in higher education to foster learning for innovation and creativity. It explores the design and delivery of an inaugural creativity and innovation course that used a combination of individual and group projects to explore the combinatorial use of creative problem solving strategies and grammatical design schemas. Using established creative thinking evaluation techniques and reflective practice journals offers a powerful path for the creative development of innovative ideas. Testing (Torrance, Creativity in the classroom,
1977
) found that the figurative based creative thinking scores of an experimental group of non-designer undergraduate students significantly improved according to pre and post course tests. Two dimensional and three dimensional design assessment tasks were completed in conjunction with a series of creative problem solving teamwork sessions. Standard SELTS course evaluation also strongly suggests there is value in the active teaching of creativity strategies for the recognition of valuable problems and the development of innovative solutions.

Background
In May 2021, the B.1.617 variant of SARS-CoV-2 emerged in Ireland, and both Delta and Kappa sub-lineages were initially deemed variants of concern (VOCs) on a precautionary basis. We describe a large outbreak of SARS-CoV-2 B.1.617.1 (Kappa mutation) linked to a private gathering among third level students in Cork, Ireland.
Methods
Surveillance data were available from the Health Service Executive COVID Care Tracker. The epidemiological sequence of infection for each new case in this outbreak was tracked and whole genome sequencing was requested on all linked cases. Enhanced public health control measures were implemented by the Department of Public Health HSE-South to contain onward spread of VOCs, including retrospective contact tracing, lengthy isolation and quarantine periods for cases and close contacts. Extensive surveillance efforts were used to describe and control onward transmission.
Results
There were 146 confirmed SARS-CoV-2 cases linked to the outbreak. All sequenced cases (53/146; 36%) confirmed Kappa mutation. The median age was 21 years (range 17–65). The majority (88%) had symptoms of SARS-CoV-2 infection. There were 407 close contacts; the median was 3 per case (range 0–14). There were no known hospitalisations, ICU admissions or deaths. Vaccination data was unavailable, but the outbreak pre-dated routine availability of COVID-19 vaccines among younger adults in Ireland.
Conclusion
Enhanced public health control measures for new and emerging variants of SARS-CoV-2 may be burdensome for cases and close contacts. The overall public health benefit of enhanced controls may only become apparent when evidence on disease transmissibility and severity becomes more complete.

Comments on James D. Brown and Thom Hudson's \The Alternatives in Language Assessment\
1999
Anthony Bruton comments on Brown and Hudson's article \"The Alternatives in Language Assessment,\" (v32 n4 Win 1998). Raises questions about some of their definitions and categories and suggests additional items that need to be considered by test takers. Brown and Hudson reply with clarifications of terms and definition of the scope of their paper. (Author/VWL)

Alienation and Emotional Maturity
1989
Despite the lengthy interest in alienation, scholars have not addressed the question of differential individual response to social and personal problems. Research has indicated that the alienated are less likely to confront their problems, e.g., alienation correlates negatively with utilization of medical services and marital adjustment scores. Emotional maturity, on the other hand, has been found related to better marital adjustment, etc. One under-utilized approach, therefore, is to consider alienation as a manifestation of inadequate socialization.
A study of 582 lowerclassmen in a midwest university found virtually zero correlations between social background factors and alienation, but significant, inverse relationships between alienation and emotional maturity. However, despite the link between alienation and emotional maturity, we suggest that further research be directed toward the interaction between personality and situation, based on the proposition that individuals may manifest alienated or immature responses in some spheres of institutionalized activity but not in others.

1981
Ss (287 F & 318 M introductory sociology students) completed an 8-page questionnaire concerning their perceptions of their own behavior, & that of the opposite sex, with respect to \"playing dumb\" on dates. Reports of never having played dumb were similar for both men & women, in contrast to conclusions in the literature of the stronger tendency of women to adopt this dating strategy. However, in predicting this behavior in the opposite sex, Ms overestimated Fs by 20%, while Fs underestimated Ms by 12.5%, suggesting a \"pluralistic ignorance\" in the area of sex-role perceptions, with Ms consistently more prone to this type of inaccurate impression. 2 Tables. The 12 best overlooked albums of 2018 (so far)
2018
To all intents and purposes, it seemed as if that album's good luck charms had all but dissipated in the intervening period, but the truth is that Prass's prolific songwriting streak - she had at least two album's worth of material standing in line - was gazumped by the US presidential elections and a result predicated on sexism. [...]you could probably drift through life remaining blissfully ignorant of the Galway native , but overlook her at your peril. High Horse is a disco-country track that makes Kylie Minogue's country-pop album Golden wither in comparison. In his slacker countrified take on popular music, for which he enlists influences ranging from country-soul to T-Rex with nods to Keith Richards, Howe Gelb and fellow Californian Chuck Prophet, Stusso cruises along in an engaging lo-fi manner, full of existential woe, droll observations and angled guitar lines.

1975
The Komarovsky-Wallin thesis of women's pretending inferiority in dating situations was replicated (287 women) and is challenged. Questions are raised as to the appropriate collapsing of categories of responses and the incidence of pretended inferiority in relation to number of dates. Data from a comparison sample of men (318 men) are also presented. Evidence does not sustain the belief of women's pretensions of inferiority.
