“Euphoria”: Trans children and experiences of prepubertal social transition
Objective This research explored experiences of prepubertal social transition, listening to trans children who were affirmed in childhood, as well as hearing from their parents. Background Despite being a topic of significant importance, there is limited qualitative literature on parents' or indeed children's experiences of prepubertal social transition and little qualitative research on how childhood rejection or affirmation influences well‐being. Method This study examines qualitative data from 30 parents with experience supporting a trans child to socially transition at average age 7 years (range 3–10 years), alongside data from 10 of the trans children. Data were analyzed through inductive reflexive thematic analysis. Results The first major theme explored experiences pretransition, with subthemes on children correcting assumptions, becoming distressed, struggling alone, reaching crisis, or growing withdrawn and frustrated. The second major theme examined experiences posttransition, with subthemes on a weight being lifted, validation at school, and well‐being. Conclusion This qualitative research complements existing quantitative evidence on the importance of social transition, with childhood affirmation critical to the happiness and well‐being of trans children. Implications The research has significant relevance for parents of trans children, professionals working with families, and policymakers and legislators influencing policy and practice toward trans children and their families.

Rethinking Economic Measurement Using Statistical Ensembles
The axiomatic framework of quantum game theory gives us a new platform for exploring economics by resolving the foundational problems that have long plagued the expected utility hypothesis. This platform gives us a previously unrecognized tool in economics, the statistical ensemble, which we apply across three distinct economic spheres. We examine choice under uncertainty and find that the Allais paradox disappears. For over seventy years, this paradox has acted as a barrier to investigating human choice by masking actual choice heuristics. We discover a powerful connection between the canonical ensemble and neoclassical economics and demonstrate this connection’s predictive capability by examining income distributions in the United States over 24 years. This model is an astonishingly accurate predictor of economic behavior, using just the income distribution and the total exergy input into the economy. Finally, we examine the ideas of equality of outcome versus equality of opportunity. We show how to formally consider equality of outcome as a Bose–Einstein condensate and how its achievement leads to a corresponding collapse in economic activity. We call this new platform ‘statistical economics’ due to its reliance on statistical ensembles.

Stoichiometric and irreversible cysteine-selective protein modification using carbonylacrylic reagents
Maleimides remain the reagents of choice for the preparation of therapeutic and imaging protein conjugates despite the known instability of the resulting products that undergo thiol-exchange reactions
in vivo
. Here we present the rational design of carbonylacrylic reagents for chemoselective cysteine bioconjugation. These reagents undergo rapid thiol Michael-addition under biocompatible conditions in stoichiometric amounts. When using carbonylacrylic reagents equipped with PEG or fluorophore moieties, this method enables access to protein and antibody conjugates precisely modified at pre-determined sites. Importantly, the conjugates formed are resistant to degradation in plasma and are biologically functional, as demonstrated by the selective imaging and detection of apoptotic and HER2+ cells, respectively. The straightforward preparation, stoichiometric use and exquisite cysteine selectivity of the carbonylacrylic reagents combined with the stability of the products and the availability of biologically relevant cysteine-tagged proteins make this method suitable for the routine preparation of chemically defined conjugates for
in vivo
applications.
Current cysteine bioconjugation strategies for protein-drug conjugates synthesis often yield heterogeneous and poorly stable products. Here, the authors use carbonylacrylic derivatives to selectively modify cysteine residues and synthesize biologically functional antibody conjugates highly stable in plasma.

This document updates the “Strategies to Prevent Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus Transmission and Infection in Acute Care Hospitals” published in 2014.1 This expert guidance document is sponsored by the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA).
