A comparative review of hospitality and tourism innovation research in academic and trade journals

Purpose
The purpose of this review paper is to identify the themes of hospitality and tourism innovation research published in academic and trade journals between 2010 and 2020, to explore the common and different areas of interest between academia and the industry and to examine the trends of innovation research themes during this period to suggest future research directions.
Design/methodology/approach
The EBSCO Hospitality and Tourism Index was used as the data source. Co-word analysis was conducted via the Leximancer software to identify key areas of interest in hospitality and tourism innovation. Trends in hospitality and tourism innovation over the ten-year period were revealed by a time-dimension analysis.
Findings
This study produced a conceptual map demonstrating focal points and trends in hospitality and tourism innovation. Trade journals were found to be dominated by product innovation driven by technological development, while academic journals covered more topics, such as employee innovation, sustainable innovation, leadership innovation and user generated content (UGC). Academia was shown to follow in the footsteps of industry in publication on several topics. Furthermore, academic interest in certain topics, such as hotel service innovation, UGC and social media, lasted several years.
Practical implications
This study can facilitate knowledge transfer between academia and the industry. It also provides directions for future research based on historical and comparative analysis.
Originality/value
This research extends the scope of existing review studies by including articles published by trade journals. It also adds a time dimension, which helps to unveil the evolution process of hospitality and tourism innovation research and practice.

Development of cyclopeptide inhibitors of cGAS targeting protein-DNA interaction and phase separation

Cyclic GMP-AMP synthase (cGAS) is an essential sensor of aberrant cytosolic DNA for initiating innate immunity upon invading pathogens and cellular stress, which is considered as a potential drug target for autoimmune and autoinflammatory diseases. Here, we report the discovery of a class of cyclopeptide inhibitors of cGAS identified by an in vitro screening assay from a focused library of cyclic peptides. These cyclopeptides specifically bind to the DNA binding site of cGAS and block the binding of dsDNA with cGAS, subsequently inhibit dsDNA-induced liquid phase condensation and activation of cGAS. The specificity and potency of one optimal lead XQ2B were characterized in cellular assays. Concordantly, XQ2B inhibited herpes simplex virus-1 (HSV-1)-induced antiviral immune responses and enhanced HSV-1 infection in vitro and in vivo. Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease characterized by abnormal proliferation of keratinocytes and infiltration of inflammatory cells. Significant challenges remain in developing effective and safe targeted therapies for psoriasis. Here, we reported the discovery of novel cystamine derivatives for the treatment of psoriasis. These compounds effectively attenuated LPS-induced inflammation in vitro, and the optimal candidate CS1 ameliorated imiquimod-induced psoriasis-like inflammation in mice. Mechanistically, CS1 bound and inhibited the deacetylase HDAC6, subsequently inhibited the AKT, MAPK, and STAT3 pathways, attenuated the hyperproliferation and altered differentiation of keratinocytes and reduced the infiltration of immune cells. These findings suggest that HDAC6 may serve as a potential target for drug development in the treatment of psoriasis.

Butyrate Ameliorates ISO-Induced Cardiac and Intestinal Injury in Rats via Modulation of Bitter Taste Receptors (Tas2rs) and GPR41/43 to Inhibit NLRP3 Activation

Background: The gut microbiota and its metabolite short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) regulate host physiology, but whether butyrate, a key SCFA, protects against myocardial injury via the gut–heart axis remains unclear. Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the cardioprotective effect of butyrate in a rat model of isoproterenol (ISO)-induced myocardial injury and to explore its underlying gut–heart mechanism. Methods: In this experimental study, male Sprague-Dawley rats received intragastric butyrate pre-treatment followed by ISO injection to induce myocardial injury. Cardiac function, myocardial remodeling, gut–heart homeostasis, intestinal barrier integrity, and the expression of Tas2r, GPR41/43, and NLRP3 pyroptosis pathway components were assessed. Results: Butyrate pre-treatment significantly restored cardiac function (LVEF increased by 19.67 units; 95% CI, 11.17–28.16; p < 0.001) and ameliorated electrophysiological abnormalities (QTc shortened by 63.21 ms; 95% CI, 45.45–80.97; p < 0.0001). Mechanistically, butyrate suppressed aberrant myocardial Tas2r signaling (Tas2r137 reduced by 1.06 units; 95% CI, 0.37–1.74; p < 0.01), upregulated GPR41/43, inhibited NLRP3 inflammasome activation (NLRP3 reduced by 1.23 units; 95% CI, 0.13–2.33; p < 0.05), and repaired intestinal barrier integrity, thereby reducing bacterial translocation and secondary injury. Conclusions: Butyrate ameliorates ISO-induced myocardial injury through a simultaneous gut–heart mechanism, acting on both the cardiac Tas2r137/GPR41/43-NLRP3 pathway and intestinal barrier protection. These findings identify butyrate as a key functional molecule in gut–heart crosstalk and suggest its potential as a therapeutic agent for myocardial injury.

What are the characteristics of professional league referees’ running performance in different situations?

Background
This study investigates the characteristics and patterns of referees’ running performance under various match situations, using the Chinese Super League (CSL) as a case study.
Methods
Running performance data were collected and analyzed using ProZone
®
(Leeds, UK) wearable tracking technology based on observations of field referees during the 2019 CSL season. The dataset comprises 30 referees across 240 matches, totaling 22,994 min of match time. Key metrics analyzed sprinting, high-speed running (HSR), fast running (FR), and total distance (TD). Each match was segmented on a minute-by-minute basis according to different situational contexts. Running performance was compared across situational variables, such as referee nationality, match periods (halves, 15 intervals, and any 5-minute intervals), and match situation (scoring status and differences).
Results
No significant differences in running performance were observed between international and Chinese referees, except in FR. The highest levels of running activity were observed during the first half, the initial 15 min of the match, and additional time at the end of each half. During different phases of match progression, referees exhibited the highest running volumes when the match was tied, when the home team was behind, or when there was a significant score difference.
Conclusion
These findings offer valuable insights for designing referees’ daily physical training programs. They suggest that referees should actively regulate their running pace during matches in response to dynamic changes in team scores to maintain optimal physical conditions.

Estimating Perspectives of Oil and Gas in New Strata in the Southern and Surrounding Dayangshu Basin

On the basis of elaborating on the regional geological background, this paper analyzes the lithological and sedimentary characteristics and explorative prospects of new strata with oil and gas in the southern and surrounding areas of Dayangshu Basin. Based on the latest high-precision airborne gravity and magnetic comprehensive survey data, combined with the latest data from geological explorations, physical surveys, and drilling, and the use of basin structure layering combination methods, we clarified the characteristics of the bottom of the Jurassic–Cretaceous and the occurrence characteristics of the Upper Paleozoic in the study area and revealed the determinative effect of multi-period structures on the most important sedimentary layers. Then, we summarized the accumulation conditions and prediction methods of hydrocarbons and proposed the oil and gas prospects of these deep new strata. The results show that the Liuhe Sag in Dayangshu Basin, the depression in the northeast of Longjiang Basin, and the northern parts of the Taikang swell have good source–reservoir–cap combination conditions and favorable structural characteristics for oil and gas, where there is a high potential for exploration.

Thematic Correlation and Contextual Factors of Netizens' Information Needs During the COVID-19 Pandemic

[Purpose/Significance] Identifying the contextual factors of information needs is of great significance for understanding the generation mechanism of information needs. [Method/Process] Based on the background of the outbreak of COVID-19, this study crawled the question data from the Baidu Zhidao between December 31 in 2019 and March 30 in 2020, using methods such as content analysis and co-occurrence network analysis to identify the themes of netizens' information needs and the associations between them, and discover the characteristics of different information need themes under various contextual factors. [Results/Conclusions] This study extracted 8 primary themes and 33 secondary themes to reflect the information needs of netizens during the COVID-19 pandemic. The top five information needs with the highest attention from netizens are: impacts, preventions, controls, knowledge and education, and symptoms and treatments. From the perspective of the correlation analysis between themes, the relationship between impacts and controls is the strongest, and worries about infection are closely related to symptoms and treatments. In addition, the contextual factors of netizens' information needs are mainly characters, regions, places, and activities. This research provides support for researches on the relationship between information needs and contexts of netizens in public health emergencies, and helps relevant departments provide information to the public in a timely, efficient and accurate manner.

Empirical Study on Customer Equity of the Pesticide Industry

The focus of modern marketing has shifted from products and enterprise level of traditional marketing to customer level,and customer equity is receiving closer attention. No. 1 document of central government proposed innovating agricultural production and operation system and establishing new agricultural business entities. Seizing these customers becomes a great challenge for pesticide enterprises in the new trend. Therefore,pesticide enterprises need to find out key factors driving customer equity,so as to carry out pertinent marketing and grab the maximum market share. Based on the first-hand survey data,this paper analyzed the influence of value equity,brand equity and relation equity on customer equity by factor analysis and structural equation analysis. It found that the relation equity has the highest driving effect,especially training,community building and visiting experience. Finally,it came up with some recommendations to make pertinent marketing.

Alterations in TP53 Are a Potential Biomarker of Bladder Cancer Patients Who Benefit From Immune Checkpoint Inhibition

In recent years, immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) targeting CTLA-4 or PD1/PDL1 have achieved remarkable success in the treatment of bladder cancer (BLCA), but only a few patients have shown durable clinical benefits. The prognostic role of a mutant form of the tumor suppressor gene TP53 (TP53-MT) in predicting the efficacy of ICIs is highly controversial; therefore, in this study, we obtained data for 210 patients from an immunotherapy cohort, 412 patients from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA)-BLCA cohort and 18 BLCA cell lines from Genomics of Drug Sensitivity in Cancer (GDSC), and we performed integrated bioinformatic analysis to explore the relationships between TP53-MT and clinical benefits derived from ICI treatment and the underlying mechanisms. We conclude that TP53-MT is a potential indicator of a relatively good response to ICIs and associated with prolonged overall survival (OS) (log-rank test, hazard ratio (HR) = 0.65 [95% confidence interval (CI), 0.44-0.99], p = 0.041). Through integrated analysis with several platforms, we found that TP53-MT patients were more likely to benefit from ICIs than wild-type P53 (TP53-WT) patients, which may be the result of 2 major mechanisms. First, the patients with TP53-MT showed stronger tumor antigenicity and tumor antigen presentation, as indicated by a higher tumor mutational load, a higher neoantigen load and increased expression of MHC; second, the antitumor immunity preexisting in tumors was stronger in samples with TP53-MT than in those with TP53-WT, including enrichment of interferon-gamma, positive regulation of TNF secretion pathways and increased expression of some immunostimulatory molecules, such as CXCL9 and CXCL10. This study provided some clues for identifying patients who would potentially benefit from ICIs at the somatic genomic level, developing new indications for targeted second-generation sequencing and promoting the development of precision medicine.

The target of rapamycin (TOR) kinase is an evolutionarily conserved hub of nutrient sensing and metabolic signaling. In plants, a functional connection of TOR activation with glucose availability was demonstrated, while it is yet unclear whether branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) are a primary input of TOR signaling as they are in yeast and mammalian cells. Here, we report on the characterization of an Arabidopsis mutant over-accumulating BCAAs. Through chemical interventions targeting TOR and by examining mutants of BCAA biosynthesis and TOR signaling, we found that BCAA over-accumulation leads to up-regulation of TOR activity, which causes reorganization of the actin cytoskeleton and actin-associated endomembranes. Finally, we show that activation of TOR is concomitant with alteration of cell expansion, proliferation and specialized metabolism, leading to pleiotropic effects on plant growth and development. These results demonstrate that BCAAs contribute to plant TOR activation and reveal previously uncharted downstream subcellular processes of TOR signaling.
