Antibiotic resistome from the One-Health perspective: understanding and controlling antimicrobial resistance transmission
The concept of the antibiotic resistome was introduced just over a decade ago, and since then, active resistome studies have been conducted. In the present study, we describe the previously established concept of the resistome, which encompasses all types of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs), and the important findings from each One-Health sector considering this concept, thereby emphasizing the significance of the One-Health approach in understanding ARG transmission. Cutting-edge research methodologies are essential for deciphering the complex resistome structure in the microbiomes of humans, animals, and the environment. Based on the recent achievements of resistome studies in multiple One-Health sectors, future directions for resistome research have been suggested to improve the understanding and control of ARG transmission: (1) ranking the critical ARGs and their hosts; (2) understanding ARG transmission at the interfaces of One-Health sectors; (3) identifying selective pressures affecting the emergence, transmission, and evolution of ARGs; and (4) elucidating the mechanisms that allow an organism to overcome taxonomic barriers in ARG transmission. Antimicrobial resistance: Mapping the spread among humans, animals and the environment A deeper understanding of the interplay between the human microbiome and micro-organisms present in animals and the environment will be critical for controlling antimicrobial resistance. Researchers have long known that naturally occurring antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) can transfer between microbial species, disrupting clinical or veterinary antibiotic use. A review by Chang-Jun Cha at Chung-Ang University, Anseong, and Dae-Wi Kim, Jeonbuk National University, Jeonju, South Korea, highlights the importance of a holistic approach known as the ‘One Health’ model to ARG research. Teriparatide therapy for severe, refractory osteoradionecrosis of the jaw
Although osteoradionecrosis (ORN) is a serious complication of craniofacial radiotherapy, the current management methods remain suboptimal. Teriparatide (TPTD), a recombinant human parathyroid hormone (1–34), has shown beneficial effects on osseous regeneration in medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw or periodontitis. However, TPTD therapy in irradiated bones has not been indicated yet because of the theoretical risk of osteosarcoma seen in rat models. Hence, we first report here two patients with tongue cancer with late-emerging ORN who were successfully treated with TPTD for 4–6 months with serum calcium and vitamin D supplementation. In contrast to the usual progress of ORN, the bone defect regenerated well and bone turnover markers including serum C-terminal telopeptide of type 1 collagen and osteocalcin were restored with TPTD therapy. Our experience might suggest that TPTD therapy with careful monitoring can provide an effective treatment option for patients with ORN in select refractory cases, with the benefits outweighing the potential risks.

Gender and Social Isolation across the Life Course
Social isolation has robust adverse effects on health, well-being, dementia risk, and longevity. Although most studies suggest similar effects of isolation on the health of men and women, there has been much less attention to gendered patterns of social isolation over the life course—despite decades of research suggesting gender differences in social ties. We build on theoretical frames of constrained choice and gender-as-relational to argue that gender differences in isolation are apparent but depend on timing in the life course and marital/partnership history. Results indicate that boys/men are more isolated than girls/women through most of the life course, and this gender difference is much greater for the never married and those with disrupted relationship histories. Strikingly, levels of social isolation steadily increase from adolescence through later life for both men and women.

Mobile resistome of human gut and pathogen drives anthropogenic bloom of antibiotic resistance
Background The impact of human activities on the environmental resistome has been documented in many studies, but there remains the controversial question of whether the increased antibiotic resistance observed in anthropogenically impacted environments is just a result of contamination by resistant fecal microbes or is mediated by indigenous environmental organisms. Here, to determine exactly how anthropogenic influences shape the environmental resistome, we resolved the microbiome, resistome, and mobilome of the planktonic microbial communities along a single river, the Han, which spans a gradient of human activities. Results The bloom of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) was evident in the downstream regions and distinct successional dynamics of the river resistome occurred across the spatial continuum. We identified a number of widespread ARG sequences shared between the river, human gut, and pathogenic bacteria. These human-related ARGs were largely associated with mobile genetic elements rather than particular gut taxa and mainly responsible for anthropogenically driven bloom of the downstream river resistome. Furthermore, both sequence- and phenotype-based analyses revealed environmental relatives of clinically important proteobacteria as major carriers of these ARGs. Conclusions Our results demonstrate a more nuanced view of the impact of anthropogenic activities on the river resistome: fecal contamination is present and allows the transmission of ARGs to the environmental resistome, but these mobile genes rather than resistant fecal bacteria proliferate in environmental relatives of their original hosts. -EAr6o8ZqqRG-rMJXcUMDB Video abstract.
Customers’ intention to use robot-serviced restaurants in Korea: relationship of coolness and MCI factors
Purpose This study aims to empirically test a theoretical model by defining customers’ intention to use services of restaurant robots, which are rapidly developing in Korea. The proposed model incorporates three stages: coolness, motivated consumer innovativeness (MCI) and the theory of planned behaviour. Design/methodology/approach A total of 420 questionnaires were issued. The results were analysed to verify the reliability and validity of the measured variables. Structural equation modelling was used to test the research hypotheses. Findings The results showed that hedonically motivated consumer innovativeness (hMCI) and socially motivated consumer innovativeness (sMCI) have positive effects on attitude and are enhanced by attractiveness, utility, subcultural appeal and originality. However, the relationship between MCI and attitude differed among age groups. Practical implications The results revealed that sensory elements of robot services improve customer attitudes towards the use of robots in restaurants. This is a key finding that restaurant marketers should consider, because non-face-to-face services are becoming increasingly important in the current COVID-19 context. Originality/value This study analysed the relationship between coolness, MCI and the theory of planned behaviour in the context of robot-serviced restaurants and how the relationship between MCIs and attitude differed among the young and older customers. Practical implications are suggested.
