DIRETTORI OMBRA DI TRE OBLIATE RIVISTE: ARRIGO BENEDETTI E MARIO PANNUNZIO (1939-1943)
2021
Arrigo Benedetti and Mario Pannunzio occupy a central position in the events of the 20th century Italian journalism. Their names remain inextricably linked to the creation of newspapers and magazines that marked an age: «L'europeo», «L'espresso», «Risorgimento liberale», «Il mondo». When in 1939 Benedetti and Pannunzio came out of the experience of «Omnibus» -- Leo Longanesi's magazine of which they were editors-in-chief -- at first they attempted the restyling of an old magazine acquired by Rizzoli; then they shared the editorship of laquo;Oggi». After the suppression of the weekly magazine in January 1942, the two friends took different paths and then they met again at the beginning of 1943 to work together with Gianni Mazzocchi, owner of the Editoriale Domus. The major outcome of this relationship consists of two periodicals that have fallen into oblivion. The present contribution aims to give them back the right relevance.

PROMOZIONE O PROPAGANDA? L'ALLEANZA NAZIONALE DEL LIBRO (1927-1938)
2019

2017
Along the months from the arrival of the Allied troops into the Italian capital (June 4th, 1944) to the fulfillment of the Liberation process (April 1945), Rome was not only the place of political decisions, but also the capital of the periodical press and of publishing activities. These conditions were determined by different factors: a wide availability of printing facilities and skilled workers, the hundreds of intellectuals, journalists and writers, who were determined to revindicate their freedom of speech, which had been denied for the previous twenty years; the specular wish of readers to enjoy unbounded information. The exponential growth of newspapers and magazines corresponded to a stunning proliferation of imprints (not less than three hundred firms); some of these publishers were engaged into the concurrent promotion of books and magazines. This paper dwells on the exemplar case of Editrice Cosmopolita: this brand (in which the personalities of Enrico Allulli, Giuliano Briganti and Alessandro Morandotti are differently involved) can be linked to twenty monographs, the weekly magazine «Cosmopolita» and at least five other journals.
