The Spirit of Jesus Unleashed on the Church
2016
The Spirit of Jesus Unleashed on the Church is the third book in a series concerning the restoration of Jesus' people in a world where the marginalized classes longed for reconciliation to God. After Jesus' ascension the early Christians fulfilled Luke's epic theme of restoration in their new empire, inclusion of outcasts, and endurance during the resistance. As Jesus journeyed to Jerusalem, so Paul and the mission of God followed the journey to the capital of the Roman world. God's people today are likewise empowered by the Spirit to boldly live their mission for Jesus through love, compassion, and endurance in cultures that marginalize those who need God's reconciliation.
PREDATION ON ADULT LONG-TOED SALAMANDERS AND A NORTHERN RED-LEGGED FROG BY A BELTED KINGFISHER ON VANCOUVER ISLAND, BRITISH COLUMBIA: A REVIEW OF DEFENSIVE STRATEGY ADAPTATIONS
2022
A case of predation by a Belted Kingfisher (Megaceryle alcyon) on adult Long-toed Salamanders (Ambystoma macrodactylum) and a Northern Red-legged Frog (Rana aurora) is reported. This general note provides a description of the predation events with photographs of the amphibians being devoured. Additional photographs showing scars in long-toed salamanders are presented and considered in review of types of predatory attacks and defensive strategies. A literature review was completed to identify reported cases of predation on these two amphibian species. We discuss what is known about their anti-predator defensive strategies and what species are involved in the ecological and evolutionary dynamics at play. Traits exhibited by these amphibians are discussed as anti-predator adaptations that include warning colorations, defensive postures, tail dropping, crypsis, and glandular skin secretions that can be adhesive, unpalatable, or toxic. A potentially significant role of avian predators is considered in light of the evidence presented.

Adverse selection
2005
Academic health centers (AHCs) have struggled in recent years to redefine their special position in healthcare delivery. This article presents a description of structural and process features at AHCs to serve as a framework for redesigning healthcare delivery at AHCs. We review and synthesize the literature regarding health system performance. In addition, we address attributes of healthcare delivery that represent both challenges and opportunities for AHCs, including costs of care; comprehensiveness and capacity of care; coverage; continuity, communication, and coordination of care; consistency of practice; and consolidation. Recommendations on priorities for AHCs are given, and specific features of desirable academic delivery systems for the future are described.

PREVAILING IN THE INDO-PACIFIC: It Takes People, Partnerships to Win in Priority Theater
2025
[...]virtually every current U.S. strategic document identifies the Indo-Pacific as the priority theater and China as the nation's pacing challenge, or opponent. U.S. Army Pacific has a strategy to counter our adversaries that includes organizing and transforming a battle-winning mix of capabilities, generating joint and combined warfighting capacity through worldclass training and applying land power through campaigning to build joint interior lines on key terrain across the region. In addition to deploying the midrange precision fires capability to the Philippines twice, we have flown high-altitude balloons in Guam, sunk moving ships as part of joint exercises and assisted allies with maritime domain awareness capabilities.

Intraneuronal Substance P Contributes to the Severity of Experimental Arthritis
1984
There is evidence that substance P is a peptide neurotransmitter of some unmyelinated primary afferent nociceptors and that its release from the peripheral terminals of primary afferent fibers mediates neurogenic inflammation. The investigators examined whether substance P also contributes to the severity of adjuvantinduced arthritis, an inflammatory disease in rats. They found that, in the rat, joints that developed more severe arthritis (ankles) were more densely innervated by substance P--containing primary afferent neurons than were joints that developed less severe arthritis (knees). Infusion of substance P into the knee increased the severity of arthritis; injection of a substance P receptor antagonist did not. These results suggest a significant physiological difference between joints that develop mild and severe arthritis and indicate that release of intraneuronal substance P in joints contributes to the severity of the arthritis.

[...]with respect to the partially owned LDC, the role of the shareholder may be constrained by such factors as the percentage owned, rights to appoint directors, and voting provisions in any applicable shareholders agreement. [...]there may be valid reasons for not merging the two LDCs. 2. In the above situations, it may makesense for the municipalities to revisit the shareholders' agreement and reach new understandings as to their respective rights. 3.Acquire other distribution companies Geographical considerations may provide support for an amalgamated utility to seek to acquire other utilities. [...]following an amalgamation, a scenario could unfold where such a transaction could now be seen as a merger of equals. [...]municipalities that previously would not have been interested in discussing an LDC merger might, following a municipal amalgamation affecting one of them (but not the other), be in a position to move forward with such a deal.
