Online Teaching and Learning in Higher Education during the Coronavirus Pandemic: Students’ Perspective
The research focuses on identifying the way in which Romanian universities managed to provide knowledge during the Coronavirus pandemic, when, in a very short time, universities had to adapt the educational process for exclusively online teaching and learning. In this regard, we analyzed students’ perception regarding online learning, their capacity to assimilate information, and the use of E-learning platforms. An online survey based on a semi-structured questionnaire was conducted. Data was collected from 762 students from two of the largest Romanian universities. The results of the research revealed that higher education institutions in Romania were not prepared for exclusively online learning. Thus, the advantages of online learning identified in other studies seem to diminish in value, while disadvantages become more prominent. The hierarchy of problems that arise in online learning changes in the context of the crisis caused by the pandemic. Technical issues are the most important, followed by teachers’ lack of technical skills and their teaching style improperly adapted to the online environment. However, the last place was assigned by students to the lack of interaction with teachers or poor communication with them. Based on these findings, research implications for universities and researchers are discussed.
Toward a safer school environment: A mixed-methods analysis of bullying and its impact on romanian middle school students
Our study investigated the complex and nuanced phenomenon of bullying in the Romanian educational context, using a mixed methods approach. Its objective was to analyze the implications and effects of bullying on students, the school environment, and school safety and to propose recommendations to elevate and enhance existing bullying prevention programs. The qualitative data was collected using the adopted Owelus Questionnaire and analyzed to determine the prevalence of bullying and its effects. Qualitative data was collected by conducting semi-structured interviews with different stakeholders such as teachers, parents, and experts who expressed their insights on the intricacies of this harmful and prevalent phenomenon in the Romanian educational context, their experiences, and possible risk factors. The results highlight a significant and negative effect on the emotional well-being of students. In addition, our research identified the different perceptions of the interviewed stakeholders: teachers, parents, and experts, highlighting the need for targeted and multiple interventions that include all key participants in the bullying phenomenon. This study suggests a better collaboration among teachers, parents, and the school community. Conclusions include recommendations for creating intervention programs that are comprehensive, specific, and efficient given the resources available to the Romanian educational system.
Misinformation about medication during the COVID– 19 pandemic: A perspective of medical staff
Healthcare professionals had to face numerous challenges during the pandemic, their professional activity being influenced not only by the virus, but also by the spread of medical misinformation. In this regard, we aimed to analyze, from the perspective of medical staff, the way medical and non-medical information about the virus was communicated during the pandemic to encourage the development of future research or interventions in order to raise awareness about the way misinformation affected medical staff. The study was conducted on Romanian healthcare professionals. They were asked to answer to a questionnaire and the sample of the research includes 536 respondents. The findings revealed that most respondents stated that information about alternative treatments against the virus affected the credibility of health professionals, and that younger professionals believed to a greater extent that trust in doctors was affected. The research also showed that respondents were well informed about the drugs used in clinical trials in order to treat the virus. Healthcare professionals declared that the spread of misinformation regarding alternative treatments, affected their credibility and the relationship with their patients. Healthcare professionals had knowledge about the drugs used in clinical trials, and they acknowledged the role of social media in spreading medical misinformation. However, younger professionals also believed that social media could be used to share official information about the virus.
Small Scale–Big Impact: Temporary Small-Scale Architecture as a Catalyst for Community-Driven Development of Green Urban Spaces
Temporary architecture, as an expression of the concept of impermanence, offers adaptable and time-sensitive spatial interventions that promote community engagement and encourage experimentation within the urban environment. Beyond its physical and functional qualities, this architectural approach acts as a social mediator, fostering dialogue, networking, and the exchange of ideas between local communities and professionals, while contributing to the development of a socio-cultural common ground. This paper explores the Greenfeel Architecture wooden pavilion as a case study of small-scale architecture embedded within a landscape dedicated to urban agriculture and community-driven activities. The design process was guided by the need to balance functional requirements—providing shelter from the sun and rain and facilitating social interactions—with the protection of the existing vegetation and the enhancement of local biodiversity, with particular emphasis on supporting bee populations. In line with sustainable construction principles, the pavilion was built through the reuse of recovered materials, including used bricks for pavement, wooden slabs for the facade and roof, and several structural components sourced from previous building projects. Since its completion, the pavilion has acted as an urban acupuncture point within the surrounding area and has become a host for various outdoor activities and educational workshops aimed at diverse groups, including children, adults, professionals, and laypersons alike. The duality between the scale of the pavilion and the scale of its social, cultural, or ecological influence highlights the potential of temporary architecture to become a tool for both physical and socio-cultural sustainability in an urban environment.
The Influence of Social Media Platforms on Promoting Sustainable Consumption in the Food Industry: A Bibliometric Review
The increased trend of globalization and the ever-growing world population have produced significant challenges to sustainable consumption goals, especially in the food industry. Production, transportation, and consumption of food have a major impact on sustainability. This bibliometric review aims to offer a comprehensive analysis of the influence of social media platforms on sustainable consumption in the food industry. Based on a literature search in the ISI Web of Science (WoS) database, we identified 38 documents by applying three filters: “sustainable consumption,” “food industry,” and “social media”, and a detailed screening process, a final set of 29 articles was selected for analysis. The selection criteria ensured relevance and alignment with the research objectives. We conducted a qualitative thematic analysis to identify emerging trends, aiming to highlight the potential of social media in raising awareness, cultivating sustainable consumption practices, and creating change in the food industry. The findings indicate that social media is a powerful tool not only for influencer marketing and brand communication but also for consumer empowerment and behavioral change. Our review identified key themes such as the prevalence of influencer-based food marketing, challenges related to misinformation, consumer demand for transparency, and the growing integration of big data and personalized marketing strategies. We argue that social media can significantly contribute to sustainability goals when responsibly used by marketers, educators, and policymakers.
Changes in parenting behavior in the time of COVID—19: A mixed method approach
This study was designed to explore mothers’ perceptions about changes in parenting behavior in the middle of the pandemic COVID 19 period. Based on the convergent mixed-method design and Parental Stress model, we illustrated these changes by taking into account the impact of the pandemic perceived by mothers and the resources they had available. Research on parenting changes was important in the Romanian context because, in that challenging period, there were no regulations to safeguard parents, especially single parents as mothers. Mothers experienced increased levels of stress, some of them having to leave their jobs to stay at home with their children. Other mothers needed to work from home and in the meantime to take care of their children. In this context we wanted to illustrate the possible changes that occurred in their parenting behavior during the pandemic period. Results from the quantitative survey showed that there is a moderate correlation between the negative impact felt by mothers and the negative changes in their parenting behavior, and this correlation was diminished by a series of resources such as: social support, parenting alliance, or high income. Qualitative data provided better understanding of mothers’ parenting behavior by showing that mothers shared both positive and negative experiences during the pandemic, regardless of the general trend mentioned. As shown by the quantitative data, the qualitative data also showed that mothers who felt more strongly the impact of the pandemic reported more negative changes in their parenting behavior. The positive changes most frequently stated involved expressing affection and communicating more often on various topics, carrying out leisure activities or activities meant to help with the personal development of the child, and involving children in domestic activities. Mothers mostly described negative aspects such as too much involvement in school life, increased control and surveillance of children, especially when it comes to school related activities and to the time children were allowed to spend on their digital devices. These changes led to conflicts and sometimes, mothers resorted to discipline practices. In addition to the resources identified in quantitative research, mothers with higher education and medium–high income also turned to specialized resources (psychologists, online courses, support groups) in order to manage conflicts, them being able to see the challenges of the pandemic as an opportunity to develop and improve the relationship with their children.
Analyzing Career Counseling and Guidance Services Among Romanian Universities: A Quantitative Approach to Students’ Perception
This study aimed to evaluate Romanian university students’ perceptions of career counseling and guidance (CCG) services provided in 2022–2023. A quantitative methodology was employed, analyzing survey data (n = 7402 respondents from 18 universities) to explore awareness of, utilization of, and satisfaction with such services. Data analysis via SPSS included descriptive statistics (mean, median, standard deviation), bivariate correlations (Pearson, Spearman), and Chi-Square tests to identify significant relationships between variables, such as academic year, knowledge of CCG staff/services, and overall service evaluation. Preliminary results suggest low rates of CCG awareness and use, highlighting a disparity between student needs and available resources. This study contributes to understanding the Romanian CCG context by integrating theoretical perspectives from the international literature on dropout prevention, workforce adaptability in the digital age, and higher education quality assurance models. Limitations regarding reliance on secondary data and subjective response biases are discussed, and directions for future research aimed at improving CCG efficacy and student career transition support are proposed. Complete findings will be presented in the full work, providing an empirical foundation for CCG policy and strategy development aimed at enhancing career guidance services in Romanian higher education.
Emerging Trends in Food Consumer Behaviour
Changes in consumer behaviour are shaping food industry strategies, and a broad analysis of the specialised literature is needed to provide a holistic view of trends in consumer behavior. This article aims to identify the research directions in the field and the trends that could shape food markets. Through a bibliometric analysis of 947 publications indexed in the Web of Science over the past five years, five major research directions were identified and, for each of them, emerging trends were established. Key findings reveal a growing emphasis on health, sustainability and digitalisation. Consumers are demanding organic, locally sourced, healthier products due to concerns about environmental impact and personal well-being. Digital tools are transforming food consumption patterns, but innovative technologies, such as drone delivery and food innovations, 3D printed food, insect-based products or other alternative proteins, still face consumer resistance. Packaging innovations, including active and edible packaging, offer the potential to improve food quality and sustainability and change consumer behaviour. The study emphasises the importance of social norms, health consciousness and social media in shaping purchase intentions for sustainable products. This analysis offers valuable insights for academia, industry, and policymakers to anticipate market changes and effectively adapt to evolving consumer demands.
Balancing Tradition and Digitalization: Enhancing Museum Experiences in the Post-Pandemic Era
This study analyzes how museums in Brașov County integrated digital technologies into their activities during the COVID-19 pandemic, with a focus on online communication and audience interaction. This research is based on a mixed-methods approach, including content analysis, semi-structured interviews with museum representatives, and a questionnaire applied to the visiting public. The aim is to identify the digital strategies used, the challenges encountered, and visitors’ perceptions regarding the usefulness of these tools. The results indicate an accelerated but uneven adoption of digital technologies, influenced by available resources, internal competencies, and institutional support. Frequent online interaction is positively correlated with the perceived quality of digital content, and openness to virtual activities is higher among younger and more educated audiences. Identified limitations include the lack of specialized personnel, reduced budgets, and administrative difficulties. This study emphasizes the need for institutional reforms and investments in digitalization to ensure the sustainability of the digital transition, without losing the value of the physical museum experience.
Migration to Italy and Integration into the European Space from the Point of View of Romanians
This study investigates the determinants of Romanian workers’ migration intentions towards Italy, integrating economic, social, and psychological perspectives. Based on a sample of 358 respondents, four hypotheses were tested concerning perceived living standards, working conditions, quality of public services, and anticipated integration difficulties. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics, Spearman’s rho correlation, Mann–Whitney U, Chi-square, ANOVA, and ordinal logistic regression. The results confirm that higher perceived living standards and better working conditions in Italy significantly increase the likelihood of expressing migration intentions, while favourable evaluations of healthcare and education act as additional pull factors. Conversely, anticipated integration difficulties, particularly language barriers and cultural adaptation, reduce migration intentions, indicating that socio-psychological obstacles can counterbalance economic incentives. By combining non-parametric and multivariate analyses, the study demonstrates that migration is a multidimensional process shaped not only by structural opportunities but also by behavioural and psychological appraisals. These findings are consistent with recent research on European labour mobility and contribute to the literature by highlighting the role of subjective perceptions in shaping migration decisions. Implications for policy include the need to address both economic disparities and integration barriers to support more balanced mobility within the European space.
