THE CHANGING INTERNATIONAL ECONOMIC BALANCE OF POWER
In a panel discussion, several executives talked about the the changing international economic balance of power. Faryar Shirzad, global head of the Office of Government Affairs at Goldman Sachs said that the striking thing to watch is that the global economy has grown, and that there has been an enormous increase in the flow of capital across borders. Carlos Henrique d' Abreu e Silva Minister Counselor for Economic Affairs at the Embassy of Brazil in Washington, DC, also said balance of power has been and will continue to be operational, but it is no longer sufficient to explain the emerging international system. James Feinerman, The James M. Morita Professor of Asian Legal Studies at Georgetown University Law Center added that China is important to consider in the overall themes of this panel because in many ways it is the nine hundred pound gorilla of all the issues in the more recent economic development of the last twenty years or so.
