Implementation of a sample design for a survey of program participants using time-location sampling
To assess the feeding practices and behaviors of women and young children participating in the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), USDA currently funds the longitudinal WIC Infant and Toddler Feeding Practices Study-2 (WIC ITFPS-2). In 2013, the study used time-location sampling (TLS) to enroll a cohort of infants who participated in WIC around birth. The children are subsequently followed across their first six years of life, regardless of their participation in WIC, with an additional follow-up at age nine years. A woman may enroll her child in WIC either during pregnancy or postpartum. For this study, a representative sample of infants enrolled in WIC was desired. Because the associations between WIC prenatal support and education and feeding practices and behaviors are substantively important to this study, the sample needed to include both women enrolling their children prenatally and women enrolling their children postnatally. For prenatal WIC enrollees, we attempted to complete a prenatal interview with the mother prior to the child’s birth. This paper describes the TLS approach used and the challenges addressed in implementation of the sample design and selection for the WIC ITFPS-2. Our approach generated a probability sample (subject to site geographic and size exclusions) using a stratified, multistage design, but there were challenges at each stage of selection. First, a WIC site was selected, and then newly enrolled WIC participants were sampled within selected sites during predetermined recruitment windows based on the site’s average flow of new WIC enrollees. We discuss issues faced, including overcoming incomplete lists of individual WIC sites and discrepancies between projected new WIC enrollment counts and actual flow of new WIC enrollments during the recruitment period.
Justice League Dark. Volume 6, Lost in forever
Time is broken - and so is the Justice League Dark! The team may have welcomed Andrew Bennett, Frankenstein, and others back into the fold, but the reunion will be short-lived when the JLD finds itself scattered across the timestream. They're lost in an apocalyptic wasteland at the end of time. An incomprehensible dimension beyond all existence, the JLD finds itself at the dawn of a dark civilization lost to recorded history - the place where magic was first harnessed.
Hydrogen Desorption in Mg(BH4)2-Ca(BH4)2 System
Magnesium borohydride, Mg(BH4)2, and calcium borohydride, Ca(BH4)2, are promising materials for hydrogen storage. Mixtures of different borohydrides have been the subject of numerous researches; however, the whole Mg(BH4)2-Ca(BH4)2 system has not been investigated yet. In this study, the phase stability and the hydrogen desorption were experimentally investigated in the Mg(BH4)2-Ca(BH4)2 system, by means of XRD, ATR-IR, and HP-DSC. Mg(BH4)2 and Ca(BH4)2 are fully immiscible in the solid state. In the mechanical mixtures, thermal decomposition occurs at slightly lower temperatures than for pure compounds. However, they originate products that cannot be identified by XRD, apart from Mg and MgH2. In fact, amorphous phases or mixtures of different poorly crystalline or nanocrystalline phases are formed, leading to a limited reversibility of the system.

Synthesis and characterization of Magnesium-Iron-Cobalt complex hydrides
The formation, structure and deuterium desorption properties of Mg 2 Fe x Co (1−x) D y (0 ≤ x ≤ 1 and 5 ≤ y ≤ 6) complex hydrides were investigated. The synthesis was carried out by reactive ball milling, using a mixture of powders of the parent elements in D 2 atmosphere. The formation of quaternary deuterides was identified from Rietveld refinements of powder X-Ray diffraction and powder neutron diffraction patterns, and from infrared attenuated total reflectance analysis. It was observed that the crystal structure of deuterides depends on the transition metal fraction. For Co-rich compositions, i.e. up to x = 0.1, hydrides have the tetragonal distorted CaF 2 -type structure (space group P 4/ nmm ) of Mg 2 CoD 5 at room temperature. For Fe-rich compositions, i.e. x ≥ 0.5, a cubic hydride is observed, with the same K 2 PtCl 6 -type structure (space group Fm 3 ¯ m ) as Mg 2 FeD 6 and as Mg 2 CoD 5 at high temperatures. For x = 0.3, both the cubic and the tetragonal deuterides are detected. Differential scanning calorimetry coupled with thermogravimetric and temperature programmed desorption analyses show rather similar deuterium desorption properties for all samples, without significant changes as a function of composition. Finally, hydrogen sorption experiments performed for Mg 2 Fe 0.5 Co 0.5 H 5.5 at 30 bar of H 2 and 673 K showed reversible reactions, with good kinetic for both absorption and desorption of hydrogen.

Meiotic behavior and pollen fertility in triploid and tetraploid natural populations of Campuloclinium macrocephalum (Eupatorieae, Asteraceae)
Campuloclinium macrocephalum DC. is a perennial herb widely distributed in the New World and introduced in South Africa, where it is commonly called “pompom weed”. This species is considered one of the most important weeds of Brazil and one of the problematic invasive plants of South Africa. The meiotic system can be studied to assess the ability of a weed to spread, but only few studies on C. macrocephalum have been realized. In this study, we examined the meiotic behavior and pollen fertility of 14 natural populations of C. macrocephalum from Argentina and Uruguay. Meiotic analysis revealed 2 triploid (2n = 3x = 30), 11 tetraploid (2n = 4x = 40) and 1 mixed population (2n = 2x = 20, 2n = 4x = 40). Both, triploid and tetraploid specimens showed a widely variable meiotic behavior with irregular chromosome pairing showing univalents, bivalents, trivalents (in triploids) and tetravalents (in tetraploids) at diacinesis of first meiotic division. Different abnormalities were observed, such as: laggard chromosomes, chromatin bridges, and out of plate chromosomes at metaphase I. During meiosis I (prophase), some cells showed the phenomenon of cytomixis or chromatin transfer between pollen mother cells. The meiotic indexes suggest that only four populations were normally fertile (over 90 % of fertile pollen), indicating meiotically stable plants. The remaining populations share variable pollen fertility, with triploids ranging from 46.64 to 54.83 % and tetraploids varying from 3.54 to 45.30 %. We suggest that polyploidy seems to be recurrent in C. macrocephalum, promoting partial sterility of pollen grains, generating large numbers of individuals by apomixis promoting invasion of crop fields. This study presents the meiotic behavior of this weed, these could be useful for future studies of biological control in areas with no natural enemies.

Advances in CALPHAD Methodology for Modeling Hydrides: A Comprehensive Review
Hydrides enable handling hydrogen at low pressure and near room temperature, offering higher volumetric densities than compressed or liquid hydrogen and enhancing safety. The CALPHAD method, rooted in the principles of thermodynamics, offers a systematic approach for predicting phase equilibria and thermodynamic properties in multicomponent materials. This comprehensive review paper aims to provide a detailed overview of the application of the CALPHAD method in the realm of metallic and complex hydrides. After an introduction to the fundamental thermodynamic aspects of hydrides, key elements of applying the CALPHAD method to model metal-hydrogen systems and complex hydrides are discussed. Subsequently, recent publications are reviewed, highlighting key findings and recent progresses in the field. Finally, the challenges that must be overcome to achieve further progress in this area are explored.
