The paper aimed at examining the influence of consumer’s environmental awareness on their intention to visit green hotels in north Cyprus, the mediation role of consumption values. Research on eco-friendly hotels stressed that conventional hotels do not make available to consumers the environmental awareness and consumption values, whereas, there is possibility that these benefits might not sit well with the hotel potential consumers. Aside highlighting the features of green hotels, it is imperative to examine how consumers perceive consumption values. A questionnaire-based survey was used to examine the study’s objectives. A total of 400 customers at 20 five-stars hotels that were randomly selected across the 3 big cities in north Cyprus (Girne, Lefkosa, and Magusa) were approached and invited to participate. The structural model was tested using structural equation modeling (SEM). The configuration model was analyzed using the partial least square (PLS) method. The finding from the SEM results shows that environmental concern directly and positively influenced the guests’ intentions to visit hotels in north Cyprus. Moreover, functional and emotional values were found to mediate the relationship between environmental concern and knowledge on the guests’ intention to visit north Cyprus hotels. Finally, the study suggest that the research will be of benefit to the managers of hotels in north Cyprus to know the significance of developing consumer’s green awareness and to market it to the customers.

A Quantum Probability Approach to Improving Human–AI Decision Making

Artificial intelligence is set to incorporate additional decision space that has traditionally been the purview of humans. However, AI systems that support decision making also entail the rationalization of AI outputs by humans. Yet, incongruencies between AI and human rationalization processes may introduce uncertainties in human decision making, which require new conceptualizations to improve the predictability of these interactions. The application of quantum probability theory (QPT) to human cognition is on the ascent and warrants potential consideration to human–AI decision making to improve these outcomes. This perspective paper explores how QPT may be applied to human–AI interactions and contributes by integrating these concepts into human-in-the-loop decision making. To capture this and offer a more comprehensive conceptualization, we use human-in-the-loop constructs to explicate how recent applications of QPT can ameliorate the models of interaction by providing a novel way to capture these behaviors. Followed by a summary of the challenges posed by human-in-the-loop systems, we discuss newer theories that advance models of the cognitive system by using quantum probability formalisms. We conclude by outlining areas of promising future research in human–AI decision making in which the proposed methods may apply.

S-Palmitoylation is the only reversible post-translational lipid modification. Knowledge about the DHHC palmitoyltransferase family is still limited. Here we show that human ZDHHC6, which modifies key proteins of the endoplasmic reticulum, is controlled by an upstream palmitoyltransferase, ZDHHC16, revealing the first palmitoylation cascade. The combination of site specific mutagenesis of the three ZDHHC6 palmitoylation sites, experimental determination of kinetic parameters and data-driven mathematical modelling allowed us to obtain detailed information on the eight differentially palmitoylated ZDHHC6 species. We found that species rapidly interconvert through the action of ZDHHC16 and the Acyl Protein Thioesterase APT2, that each species varies in terms of turnover rate and activity, altogether allowing the cell to robustly tune its ZDHHC6 activity.

Apparent Diffusion Coefficient as a Predictor of Microwave Ablation Response in Thyroid Nodules: A Prospective Study

Background: Microwave ablation (MWA) is an effective, minimally invasive therapy for benign thyroid nodules; however, the treatment response varies considerably. Identifying imaging biomarkers that can predict volumetric outcomes may optimize patient selection. Diffusion-weighted MRI (DW-MRI) offers a noninvasive assessment of tissue microstructure through apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) measurements, which may correlate with ablation efficacy. Methods: In this prospective study, 48 patients with 50 cytologically confirmed benign thyroid nodules underwent diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DW-MRI) before minimally invasive ablation (MWA). Baseline ADC values were measured, and nodule volumes were assessed by ultrasound at baseline and 1, 3, and 6 months postprocedure. The volume reduction ratio (VRR) was calculated, and associations with baseline variables were analyzed via Pearson correlation and multivariable linear regression. ROC curve analysis was used to evaluate the diagnostic performance of ADC in predicting significant volume reduction (VRR ≥ 50%). Results: Lower baseline ADC values were strongly correlated with greater VRR at 3 months (r = −0.525, p < 0.001) and 6 months (r = −0.564, p < 0.001). Multivariable regression revealed that the baseline ADC was the sole independent predictor of the 6-month VRR (β = −19.52, p = 0.0004). ROC analysis demonstrated excellent discriminative performance (AUC = 0.915; 95% CI: 0.847–0.971), with an ADC cutoff of 2.20 × 10−3 mm2/s yielding 90.9% sensitivity and 83.3% specificity for predicting a favorable volumetric response. Conclusions: Baseline ADC values derived from DW-MRI strongly predict volumetric response following microwave ablation of benign thyroid nodules. Incorporating ADC assessment into preprocedural evaluation may enhance patient selection and improve therapeutic outcomes.

= 7); group І (control), rats were treated with saline (4 ml/kg) and group ІІ (doxorubicin), nephrotoxicity was induced by three doses of 18 mg/kg/i.p. doxorubicin, at a 24-h interval on the 12th, 13th, and 14th days. Exploring Religions in Relation to Populism: A Tour around the World

This paper explores the emerging scholarship investigating the relationship between religion(s) and populism. It systematically reviews the various aspects of the phenomenon going beyond the Western world and discusses how religion and populism interact in various contexts around the globe. It looks at Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, and Christianity and how in different regions and cultural contexts, they merge with populism and surface as the bases of populist appeals in the 21st century. In doing so, this paper contends that there is a scarcity of literature on this topic particularly in the non-Western and Judeo-Christian context. The paper concludes with recommendations on various gaps in the field of study of religious populism.

Persistence of Soil Water Repellency After the 2022 Bolt Creek Fire

Wildfire ash and water-repellent soil are new materials that are formed after a wildfire that change the mechanical and hydraulic behavior of wildfire-burned slopes. Wildfire ash is known to be typically hydrophilic and to retain water, whereas the water-repellent soil layer acts as a hydraulic barrier. However, there is limited in situ soil water content data to understand the short- and long-term impacts of wildfire ash and a water-repellent soil layer on the hydromechanical behavior of burned slopes. This study investigates the trends in water content of wildfire ash, water-repellent soil, and subsurface soil after the 2022 Bolt Creek Wildfire near Skykomish, WA. The ash deposit averaged 10 cm, with a maximum 30 cm thickness in channels immediately after the fire, which allowed the in situ measurement of ash water content. Soil water content sensors were installed in the ash and subsurface soil layers, and changes in the water content were monitored for a year after the fire. The surface ash layer was above a thin (<1 cm) water-repellent soil layer, which was followed by the soil that did not show any apparent effects from the fire. The results showed a reduction in ash thickness and the persistence of the water-repellent layer over a year.
