Research article publication is often considered a critical indicator of academic institutions' success and productivity. It improves the institution's reputation, attracts talented students and faculty members, and increases the institution's chances of receiving funding opportunities from different funding agencies. This paper provides a reliable and sustainable methodology for improving the quality and quantity of research article publications for engineering institutions in India. The various tools, techniques, and initiatives that promote research culture and improve its outcome in terms of research papers are also discussed. A case study of Pimpri Chinchwad College of Engineering (PCCOE), Pune, India, depicts how predictive, prescriptive, descriptive, and diagnostic data analytics approaches help to identify the barriers in the research article publications in academic institutions and provides the ways to overcome them. It also helps to set the publication targets and develop the path to perceive the targets. The outcomes and effectiveness of the case study are discussed using the papers published in Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar databases. The challenges, opportunities, and recommendations are also provided for the smooth and effective implementation of the developed methodologies.

Natural fibers such as Banana fiber and sugarcane bagasse powder are used in the present study, which are abundantly available at low cost. Novel hybrid natural fiber reinforced composite specimen prepared by using the matrix material as epoxy (70%) with the addition of hardener and the reinforcement material (30%) used as NaOH chemical treated banana fiber with the addition of filler material as sugarcane bagasse powder to enhance the property. To prepare the composite material hand-lay process is used and manufactured three different combination of specimen by varying the composition ration of 10%, 15%, and 20% of reinforced material. The mechanical properties such as tensile, compression, flexural, Impact test of the prepared specimen have been evaluated as per the ASTM standards. The mechanical properties results depicts that the specimen prepared with chemically treated fiber gives more strength as compared to untreated fiber composites. The morphological study evidences the proper fiber used while preparing the hybrid composite material. The maximum tensile strength achieved in specimen is 73.48 MPa, compressive strength of 99.63 MPa, flexural strength of 77.50 MPa, Impact strength of 4.8 J/mm, Vickers hardness value of 59.6. The specimen prepared with chemically treated specimen has a higher percentage of water absorption than the untreated. This novel hybrid composite material can be used in automobile, aircraft, building, sports, and household applications.

Present study focuses on the experimental and numerical investigation of the effect of surface roughness of casing and adhesive coating on the efficiency of centrifugal pump. It consists of two parts; in the first part, effect of coating centrifugal pump casing by ultra-smooth ceramic based coating on the efficiency of the centrifugal pump is investigated experimentally. In the second part, effect of change in surface roughness of casing is investigated numerically by using the CFD tool. The surface roughness of casing is modeled in terms of effective sand grain size parameters and investigated by solving Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes equation at volume mesh. Effects of three surface roughnesses, i.e., 100 μm, 200 μm and 300 μm, are investigated numerically. It is observed that surface roughness of casing has considerable effect on pump performance, and pump head decreases by 9.06–14.73% by change in surface roughness from 100 to 300 μm for different mass flow rates values. For same flow rate, centrifugal pump with coated casing produces more head than that of pump without coating. Coating casing with the ultra-smooth adhesive material results in maximum efficiency enhancement of 9.6%.

Sodium-ion batteries: state-of-the-art technologies and future prospects
2025
Sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) are a prominent alternative energy storage solution to lithium-ion batteries. Sodium resources are ample and inexpensive. This review provides a comprehensive analysis of the latest developments in SIB technology, highlighting advancements in electrode materials, electrolytes, and cell design. SIBs offer unique electrochemical properties, but they still face challenges in achieving comparable energy densities, cycle life, and commercial viability. The review delves into key innovations in anode materials, including carbonaceous and alloy-based options, and breakthroughs in cathode materials, such as layered oxides and polyanionic compounds. In addition to electrodes, electrolytes were explored with particular attention to current developments in liquid- and solid-state electrolyte technology. Biomass-derived materials garnered attention for their sustainability, cost-effectiveness, and environmental benefits in developing cathodes, anodes, and electrolytes. Furthermore, this paper explores the limitations associated with sodium’s larger ionic radius, which impacts the structural stability and kinetics of SIBs. Sodium-ion batteries are presently experiencing swift advancement, propelled by their potential to satisfy the increasing need for sustainable and economical energy storage solutions. This present study examines the present cutting-edge technology, highlighting both scientific accomplishments and persisting challenges face by SIBs. It also evaluates the future prospects of SIBs in various sectors, including grid energy storage and electric vehicles, emphasizing their potential to complement or even replace lithium-based systems. Finally, the study proposes pathways to overcome existing technological barriers and accelerate the commercialization of SIBs.

Assessment of impact of ash ponds on groundwater quality: a case study from Koradi in Central India
2013
The present study assesses the impact of the ash ponds on the groundwater quality in the sub-watershed surrounding the ash ponds in the vicinity of Koradi near Nagpur in Maharashtra, India. Observation wells have been set up for monitoring of water level and groundwater quality for major cations, anions and trace elements. Samples (23 nos.) have been collected in pre-monsoon and post-monsoon seasons during 2008 and 2009, and analysis indicates that the sulphate concentration is very high (>1,000 mg/L) in samples close to the ash pond and in its downstream direction. The fluoride concentration exceeds the BIS limits in one sample.
